We are excited to announce that internationally renowned trail builder - Nick Bowman from Destination Trails - will deliver a two-day trail building training program in Albany on 26-27 November.
This course provides an introduction to trail building. It's designed for those with an interest in gaining employment in trail construction, as well as businesses and land managers wanting to upskill staff.

The Trail Construction Training Course is perfect for you if…
- You are currently working in civil construction, engineering, landscaping, or horticulture and want to understand more about the opportunities to tender for trail building projects
- You work for local government or a state government agency responsible for trails
- You are a member of a club, community group, conservation or land management organisation with an interest in trail construction or maintenance
- You want to start a trail building business or find employment in the trail sector
Cost:
$150pp for waged/businesses; $75pp for unwaged/students.
About the Trainer:
Nick Bowman from Destination Trails Pty Ltd. Specialising in creating trails for all ages and abilities, Nick has over 15 years’ experience as a mountain bike trail advocate and 14 years as a professional trail designer and builder. This experience, along with his time at IMBA Australia, has ensured that Nick has become an accepted expert in delivering sustainable trails and in particular, the implementation of the IMBA guidelines for trail difficulty ratings, design and development, within Australian’s unique ecosystems. Complimentary to all this expertise, Nick has the skills and talent to negotiate safely through the Australian political landscape to make sure trails can become a reality for all sectors of the community.

TOURISM MENTORING PROGRAM

"Accelerate" our tourism business training and mentoring program developed in partnership with the Amazing South Coast Tourism Incorporated launched this month.
The program encourages everyone from start-up entrepreneurs right through to seasoned business owners and operators to take enhance their tourism business product development and marketing.

There are three programs available, designed for businesses at different stages of growth:
- Tourism PREP – for start-ups and businesses wanting to develop a new product or service
- Tourism ACE – for businesses in the early years of establishment wanting to improve their marketing know-how
- Tourism MATES – for established businesses wanting to engage in the trade market (inbound operators, wholesalers, etc)

REGIONAL TRAILS MASTER PLAN

The Great Southern Regional Trails Master Plan is one step closer to completion. This month we completed a hectic schedule of targeted stakeholder consultation sessions across the region. The purpose of these meetings was to review the proposals, identify any constraints or concerns, and confirm land manager support. The draft master plan will be finalised in November and then go out for public comment in early December.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION - PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS

Do you need to update your outdoor education qualifications to comply with the Department of Education's new guidelines? GSCORE is once again coordinating a series of training workshops for teachers who need to complete professional development in mountain-biking, orienteering and paddling. We are also hoping to offer a snorkelling qualification. The program will run in the first week of December.

Welcome - Andy Percy
Andy has joined the GSCORE team as our Skills Development Officer.
He is responsible for increasing community participation across the region through the development of workshops, training, and grassroots instruction. Andy has 11 years experience coordinating accommodation and recreation programs in recreation camps in Perth. He relocated to Denmark in 2018 and is looking forward to getting out into the region promoting outdoor recreation activities.

Camp Quaranup Open Day Photo Competition
We were very excited to once again be part of the Camp Quaranup Community Open Day, held earlier this month. GSCORE partnered with the Amazing South Coast and South Regional TAFE to run an information booth promoting outdoor recreation activities and education pathways.
As part of the day we ran a photo competition encouraging participants to make a pledge to "Get Outdoors" this October. Thanks to our sponsors who provided a fantastic array of prizes - National Anzac Centre, Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, Albany's Historic Whaling Station, Down Under Discoveries, Dirty Feet Tours, and King George Sound Safaris.

Regional Tourism Report Released
The report, commissioned by Tourism Research Australia, highlights the importance of regional tourism. Australia’s Tourism Minister, Simon Birmingham said “our major cities will always be essential gateway attractions, but we also want visitors to venture out beyond our major cities and get a taste of the unique experiences and attractions on offer across regional Australia.” Key recommendations include addressing time and distance barriers, developing tailored itineraries and promoting what’s on offer in surrounding areas.
