Welcome Stephanie Coates, new Disability Health Network Co-Lead

Health Networks welcomes new Co-Lead Stephanie Coates joining the Disability Health Network. 

Stephanie is a registered Occupational Therapist with over 20 years of experience working with the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS). She is currently the Head of Department for Occupational Therapy at Fiona Stanley Hospital; the largest hospital based Occupational Therapy Department in WA. She is the chair of the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospital Group Disability Access and Inclusion Plan Committee and a member of the SMHS Disability Advisory Network.

While taking a break from full-time clinical work following the birth of her three children, Steph was a Councillor and Deputy Mayor for the City of Bayswater. She was previously elected to be the Chair of the City of Bayswater Disability Access and Inclusion Committee and was elected to be the Deputy Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Council for Disability.

The Child and Youth Health Network’s WA Youth Health Policy 2018 - 2023 was awarded a 2019 Health Excellence Award in Category 2; Engaging with consumers, carers and the community.

The Child and Youth Health Network coordinated the development of the Policy, it was written with extensive engagement and consultation with young people, organisations and individuals across WA. The award is recognition of this work and the Policy has led to significant changes, ongoing support and momentum within the health system to improve the health and wellbeing of young people.

Western Australian Men's Health and Wellbeing Policy - Community Consultation Report

The Western Australian Men’s Health and Wellbeing Policy – Community Consultation Report shares the feedback that was received during the broad community consultation undertaken in development of the Western Australian Men's Health and Wellbeing Policy. Over 400 individuals and organisations from across the WA health system and community contributed to the consultation. We thank them for their involvement and support.


Cancer and Palliative Care Network

Palliative Care Consumer World Café

The WA Department of Health is hosting a Palliative Care World Café on 3rd December 2019 at 9am – 11am to explore the question “What would a good palliative care journey look like?”. If you would like to attend, please register your interest by emailing Christina.Turco@health.wa.gov.au by 29 November 2019. Light refreshments and small payment provided to consumers, carers and families that attend.

Improving foot care for patients living with diabetes in the Kimberley

Thursday 14 November was World Diabetes Day. As part of their commitment to ensuring people have the same access to optimal care, Diabetes WA has recently launched a collaborative project with healthcare organisations across WA to reduce amputations and improve foot care for patients living with diabetes in the Kimberley.

The aim of the project is to provide optimal foot care to people living in rural and remote communities at home. Read more

November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month and World COPD Day (20 November). There are a range of ways to get involved and help raise awareness and funds - whether it’s connecting people with support services, donating to help find a cure or hosting an event.

Spirometry Training Survey

The Respiratory Health Network is seeking to understand spirometry training available in Western Australia.  Respiratory scientists, doctors, nurses and allied health workers who provide spirometry training are invited to participate in the Spirometry Training Survey available until Friday 13 December 2019.
