Even though Tasmanian HealthPathways is the one turning five years old, the Primary Health Tasmania team members behind it are the ones giving out a present!
The Tasmanian HealthPathways portal is adopting a new mobile-friendly HealthPathways platform to ensure users can continue to access valuable Pathway information no matter what device they are using.
The clinical content is exactly the same, but the new design is more contemporary and has improved functionality for desktop, tablet, and mobile users.
There will be a soft and full launch. The soft launch, from today, will be a one-month period when users can try out the new platform and send feedback.
We would love to hear your thoughts during this phase – just click on the 'send feedback' button on the site.
At full launch on 26 November, the mobile-friendly site will become the default user experience and all users will be directed there.

A new online directory has been launched to provide a comprehensive list of available services to help people living with chronic pain, as well as their health practitioners, manage their conditions.
The National Pain Services Directory was developed by Painaustralia and supported by the Australian Government.

Congratulations to Prospect Medical Centre's Mental Health Nurse Program North team, which took out the Excellence in Health award at the Launceston Chamber of Commerce ceremony last weekend.
Primary Health Tasmania has commissioned three providers to deliver the Australian Government-funded program across the state: Prospect Medical Centre in the north, Rural Health Tasmania in the north west, and Richmond Fellowship Tasmania in the south.

Researchers from The University of Tasmania's Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre are interested in finding out more about GPs' knowledge of the risk factors for dementia.
Interested GPs are encouraged to complete their short, voluntary survey.

Primary Health Tasmania will be conducting a musculoskeletal clinical update for GPs and nurse practitioners on Saturday 22 February 2020 in Hobart.
The event is an update in clinical practice for the assessment and management of musculoskeletal problems.
The clinical update will take place at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, and will cover:
- interdisciplinary assessment and management of hip, knee, shoulder and spinal pain
- a musculoskeletal clinic with Interactive case studies
- hands on sessions: clinical assessment and management of problems with the hip, knee, shoulder and spine.
GPs will be able to register soon via Primary Health Tasmania’s online registration system.

The National Health and Medical Research Council Centre of Research Excellence in Stillbirth eLearning portal provides evidence-based and collaboratively designed learning resources for healthcare professionals working with pregnant women.

The Mental Health Professional Online Development platform, a free national eLearning portal aimed at building knowledge of mental health and service delivery, was recently upgraded. It contains 68 individual topics and 100 hours of learning, with more to come.

The Sharing Knowledge About Immunisation (SKAI) eLearning module is designed to help healthcare workers adapt their clinical communication skills to meet the needs of all parents with regards to vaccination.
SKAI has also launched a new website for parents and carers of babies and young children which answers common questions about childhood immunisations.

The Australian Digital Health Agency has created a dedicated webpage with tailored resources for nurses, including a CPD-accredited eLearning module, fact sheets and guides, information on understanding privacy, security and consent, and other help and support.

Dr Astrid Baker grew up on mainland Australia, but with a sixth-generation Tasmanian mother, always hoped she'd be able to settle on the island state.
Now, she's done just that - and even lives in the house that her grandparents built!
The GP registrar, based at the Sorell Family Practice, started a science degree before it became clear medicine was her real passion, and says in retrospect, she'd always had an interest in the field.
"It should have been a clue that when I was six I used to read paragraphs of the family medicine book out loud to my parents," she says.
Here’s what else Astrid told Primary Health Tasmania:
- On one of her favourite things about her job: "I love seeing whole families and whole lives. It’s great when a patient comes in and fills you in on what four or five of your other patients are up to."
- On one of her biggest professional challenges: "One of the biggest challenges I have at work is to assertively charge for my time. I’m sure many readers will be familiar with the temptation to spend more time with patients and charge them less out of pocket. But that’s definitely not sustainable!"
- On what she does when she's not working: "When I’m not working, I would love to be climbing mountains, cooking feasts and gardening but in reality I’m usually scooping mashed banana off the floor and crawling around playgrounds. Wouldn’t have it any other way."
