2019 Victorian Sport Awards- Nominations now open

In partnership with the State Government of Victoria, Vicsport are proud to present the Victorian Sport Awards as a highlight of the Victorian sporting calendar. It is a night to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our home grown premier athletes and grassroots heroes as well as those who have shown commitment and dedication to community sport in Victoria.

Nominations for the 2019 #VSAs are open until 30 November with 19 categories to be awarded. The full list, selection process, eligibility criteria, definitions and voting system can be found here.

Ron Gauci re-elected, Peter Filopoulos and Jamie Parsons elected to Vicsport Board

At the 2019 Vicsport Annual General Meeting held on November 19, Vicsport’s affiliate members voted to re-elect Ron Gauci to the Vicsport Board while Peter Filopoulos and Jamie Parsons were elected as non-executive Directors.

Vicsport members to receive more benefits following changes to membership

Through substantial consultation with the Vicsport Membership Committee and a significant amount of feedback from our members via surveys, emails and one-on-one consultations, the following changes to Vicsport membership will be implemented on 1 January 2020.
  • Streamlined Individual Memberships (Previously known as VPN)
    • From 4 categories down to 2: Individual and Individual Student
  • Benefits to members that extend to all Organisation Member affiliates (e.g. Associations, Clubs, Leagues)
    • All affiliates of Vicsport Organisation members will be eligible to receive discounted member prices at Vicsport events
  • Review of pricing to match membership category.
  • New pricing as follows:
    • Small Organisation – $420 (no change)
    • Medium Organisation – $620 (no change)
    • Large Organisation – $840 (no change)
    • Extra Large Organisation – $1,500 (new category)
    • Local Government Authority – $420 (no change)
    • Associate – $420 (no change)
    • Individual – $132 (potential saving of $33)
    • Individual Student – from $55 to $25 (saving of $30)

Vicsport announce University partnership with CSSI, La Trobe University

Vicsport is delighted to announce the Centre for Sport and Social Impact (CSSI) at La Trobe University have joined as a university partner, strengthening the connection between sport, active recreation and impactful societal research.

Vicsport goes international with visit from Tokyo Metropolitan Government

Tokyo Metropolitan Government delegate Mr. Kenta Ueno, a Senior Manager with the Tokyo 2020 Bureau of Olympic and Paralympic Games, recently met with Vicsport and SRV during a trip to Australia.

The purpose of the meeting was to help deliver an overall assessment of how sport is delivered in Victoria while giving Tokyo an international perspective on getting more Japanese citizens active and playing recreational sport.

Vicsport Governance and Leadership Training programs empowering women throughout Oceania

Governance and leadership training programs created by Vicsport are being utilised by the Oceania Gymnastics Union to assist with empowering women, creating good governance protocols and helping people with disabilities get active throughout Pacific Island nations.

79 of Victoria’s sport and recreation organisations will share in more than $6.3 million in funding over two years from Together More Active, aimed to boost the capacity and sustainability of sport and recreation organisations, creating more participation opportunities, building membership and new program offerings to increase equity, diversity and inclusiveness.

The Victorian Government has also announced applications for the new $22 million Local Sports Infrastructure Fund are now open.

Through the fund, the Victorian Government is helping communities provide more opportunities for people to participate in sport and active recreation.

Councils can apply for grant opportunities across five streams: Aquatic Centres and Indoor Stadiums, Strategic Facilities, Female Friendly Facilities, Community Facilities and Planning.

As of November 2019, Active Club Grants will be incorporated into the VicHealth Partnership Grants. This new Grant presents funding opportunities for a diverse range of organisations to propel community wellbeing and health promotion initiatives into unchartered territory with a multi-million dollar funding pool.

Organisations are encouraged to consider how they might access the Grant through innovative partnerships and to think outside the box and consider who they could partner with to deliver the best possible outcomes for Victorians.

The Australian Government has announced up to $19 million (GST exclusive) for the Driving Social Inclusion through Sport and Physical Activity grant opportunity to run over two years from 2019-2020 to 2020-21.

This grant opportunity will use sport and physical activity projects to address inclusion issues for vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and seeks to enhance well-being and instill a sense of community belonging.
