Health care is undergoing a scientific and technological revolution. Every week new drugs, diagnostics, technologies and care models are announced to the world. Yet highly regulated, complex health systems can find adoption of innovation tough. If you enjoy working in complex systems with conflicting pressures; if you can build trusted relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and sectors; if you have experience of supporting adoption of innovation at scale, then this could be the job for you.
Now is a great time to join the AHSN. We’re at an exciting time in our history: we’ve got a very successful seven years under our belt and an exciting future ahead – working to grow and support health innovation across Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and South Wiltshire; and also working with other AHSNs, NHS England, NHS Improvement and the Office for Life Sciences as we continue to have national impact.
These are unprecedented times for grant funding opportunities. Up to £4.7bn is available via funding competitions. We've helped companies win major funding opportunities. Kevin Brooks, from our funding support service, will be running a grant writing masterclass on Thursday, 7 Nov. Book your spot here.
Nutrition Wheel launches
We have worked with the Patients' Association and Bournemouth University to develop the Nutrition Wheel. The wheel is an interactive version of the Patients' Association Nutrition Checklist and has been designed to be a conversation starter.
Please note: the Nutrition Wheel itself is made from durable coated card, and as such, Nutrition Wheels can be used many times. The Nutrition Wheel is a tool to be kept by the volunteer or care worker. It is not a patient resource, and as such is not appropriate to give out to patients or clients.
This includes sharing patients’ records between doctors and other care providers, installing WiFi at GP surgeries and NHS buildings, and helping local NHS IT systems ‘talk’ to one another better.
NHSE&I are providing a comprehensive programme offer, the SDM Accelerator programme, to support NHS organisations to embed Shared Decision Making into one or more clinical pathways.
This programme has been developed to align to the expansion of Universal Personalised Care, as set out in the Long Term Plan. Its overarching objective is to build capacity of NHS organisations to embed SDM through completing the SDM Self-Assessment checklist and then develop a robust plan for improvement. The programme will help to ensure you can take necessary steps to embed and implement shared decision making across your service in order that people are supported to: understand the care, treatment and support options available and the risks, benefits and consequences of those options, and make a decision about a preferred course of action, based on evidence-based, good quality information and their personal preferences.
The programme will be led and facilitated by the national SDM team and will support individuals and organisations wishing to implement SDM at scale to a high standard. It starts in September 2019 and comprises of 2 full days plus 3 webinars (2 x 90 mins, 1 x 60 mins). All organisations attending these days are strongly encouraged to ensure attendance from a team of people from across the organisation including a clinical lead, a patient leader, a project/programme/QI manager and an executive sponsor, all of who will play a role in embedding SDM into the chosen clinical pathway. Please note than having only 1-2 of these individuals at the events may impact on the effective implementation of the programme in your organisation. The first face-to-face days are being held at different venues in various parts of the country - dates and registration links given below: · South West SDM Accelerator Programme – Day 1 – 14Nov Please click on the link for location details. Venue details will be updated nearer the time. The timing for the day will be 9.30am – 4.00pm. Dates for the second programme day will be communicated shortly. Webinar dates and times QI Essentials (part 1) – 7 Nov, 10.30am – 12.00pm QI Essentials (part 2) – 21 Nov, 11.00am – 12.00pm SDM Measurement – 3 Dec, 10.30am – 12.00pm Please click on the links to add to your calendar and the joining instructions will be included in the invite.
