October is a glorious time in our beautiful Finger Lakes. We pick apples, hike through gorgeous countryside rich with fall foliage and marvel at the wonderful produce in our farmers’ markets and roadside stands. We help our kids find the perfect Halloween costumes. It is a good time to be alive.

This year, however, feels different. Despite any personal contentment, a cloud hangs over us. We have a president who treats the Constitution like a disposable piece of paper. Whatever one feels about foreign wars, Trump’s capricious, ill thought out abandonment of our allies in Syria shames us. Most of us have had enough, as poll after poll, including one commissioned by Fox, report that a majority of Americans support impeachment.

At times like this, Americans seek patriotic selflessness, and not spineless partisanship, from our politicians. Unfortunately, our Congressman Tom Reed has chosen the latter. He parrots Trump talking points, outrageously asserting that liberal Democrats like AOC are forcing Speaker Pelosi towards an impeachment inquiry. Rather than demand an inquiry into the President’s attempt to manipulate the 2020 election. To mask his failure to act, the Congressman even posted a poll asking constituents to weigh in on impeachment. So far, the Congressman has refused to publish the results. Most recently, he shamed himself further by not voting to condemn Trump’s foul abandonment of the Kurds. We all must demand that the Congressman takes a stand. Please take at least one of the following steps.

Write a short word 200 word letter to the editor and submit to one of the following media outlets.

Democracy is worth saving. It is time for us all to act like the Democratic patriots we are.
