NEWS FROM OUR FRIENDS AND ALLIES

Pregnant Then Screwed launches new company training arm
Pregnant Then Screwed recently launched Gendering Change; a series of workshops and online courses to make workplaces the best they can be for pregnant women and parents. In turn, this reduces gender pay gaps and increases the ability to recruit and retain the best talent.

Building on years of frontline campaign work, they have designed workshops that will help employers retain, enhance and support parents in the workplace through
  • Understanding and management implicit bias
  • Implementing flexible working that works for all
  • Supporting parents returning to work after a period of leave
  • Understanding your legal obligations towards pregnant women and parents
Joeli Brearley, founder of Pregnant Then Screwed, explains, "We know that employers want to do more to support working parents. Gendering Change uses our specialist first-hand knowledge as a campaign group to support employers in achieving this. Not only will our workshops help to make a difference to the lives of their own employees, but because Gendering Change funds our support services, these companies are also helping to support other parents outside of their organisation.”

Parents At Film Festivals
Back at the start of this year Sarah Calderon (The Film Agency, Madrid), Aurélie Godet (festival programmer), and Michelle Carey (film programmer recently moved to Berlin, ex-Director of Melbourne IFF) formed a WhatsApp group for parents who attend festivals, the group back then comprised of 45 festival programmers, sales agents, filmmakers and other film industry people. The group was set-up from a desire to have a support network and to share information about services for parents who travel to festivals with children and babies and with a wider aim to lobby festivals to make them more accessible for parents who wish to (or have to) travel with their children.

By 2021 Parents at Film Festivals would like every parent to be able to continue their career in the film industry after having a child. By providing several family-friendly solutions within the busy festival calendar Parents at Film Festivals will give film industry professionals and creatives the possibility to better adapt to their new lives and inspire society by doing so.

If you are a parent and would like to join the Parenting at Film Festivals community please request to join the dedicated WhatsApp group or request access to the Facebook group. (When joining please be sure to provide your email address and the right for Parents at Film Festivals to send you communications.)

Family-friendly services at AFM
For parents heading over to AFM this November there is a complimentary child badge available for AFM participants with an Attendee, Buyer, or Exhibitor badge. The dedicated AFM family-friendly resources webpage also lists babysitting and nanny services, plus family-friendly hotels and restuarants. If you attend and make use of these services please let us know how you got on.
