Hello Wednesday. It's Katie Peralta.

Even though it was just renovated, Bank of America Stadium is considered kind of a dinosaur by NFL standards. It’s one of the oldest facilities in the league, and Panthers owner David Tepper has said he wants a new, state-of-the-art stadium one day.

Since Tepper bought the Panthers last summer, rumors have swirled about where he’d build a replacement stadium. In a roundtable with reporters this week, Tepper specifically called out the nearby Charlotte Pipe & Foundry as one viable option.

The longtime manufacturer sits on a 55-acre property on Clarkson Street, a stone’s throw from the Panthers’ current home. It’s also one of the only properties near Uptown big enough to fit an NFL stadium.

The Panthers say they’ve had "casual discussions" with Charlotte Pipe officials. Although it’s considering moving to another county, Charlotte Pipe hasn’t made any decisions, and its land isn’t technically for sale yet.

Full Agenda story: What’s it like when David Tepper casually mentions building a stadium on your property?

TALKING POINTS
BB&T and SunTrust have received final approval from regulators on their $66 billion merger [Chemtob/Observer]. The banks say the deal is expected to close December 6. The newly combined bank, to be called Truist, will be based in Charlotte.

The Foundation For the Carolinas is under scrutiny again for directing funds to the Center for Immigration Studies, an organization the Southern Poverty Law Center designated as a hate group [Sludge]. Politico reported in August that between 2014 and 2017, FFTC has provided more than $11 million to organizations like CIS that work to restrict immigration. "Over the years we have been criticized on the left, and we’ve been criticized on the right for that policy. ... Welcome to my world," FFTC CEO Michael Marsicano told the Charlotte Business Journal on Tuesday afternoon.

Bojangles' Coliseum will host the Big South basketball tournament in 2021-2023 [Valade/WFAE]. Charlotte beat out Winston-Salem and Hampton, Virginia, to host the tournament. The event fills some of the void left by the CIAA basketball tournament, which is relocating to Baltimore beginning in 2021.

Charlotte OKs rezoning for transit-oriented development along the light rail [Terry/WFAE]. On Monday night, city council approved rezoning nearly 1,800 acres. The decision designates the land to be used for dense, mixed-use development that’s walkable.

CO turns 4-year-old today and is celebrating $4 sushi rolls all day today at its Park Road Shopping Center location [CO/Instagram]. You can only get one roll per person, and the deal is dine-in only. Go with the Kung Fu Crunch - salmon, avocado, cream cheese, and scallions, topped with spicy tuna, unagi sauce, spicy aioli, and tempura flakes.

MORE STADIUM SHOWS
David Tepper and other Panthers executives have said they want the local NFL stadium to be a place that's used 365 days a year. It's hard to do that without some kind of roof to protect from cold temperatures and rain — hence all of this discussion about a new stadium.

A couple of months ago, the Panthers and Live Nation announced that Billy Joel would be coming to play at Bank of America Stadium next spring. That news was a pretty big deal. Since it opened as Ericsson Stadium in 1996, the stadium has hosted only three concerts, and just two of those musicians were headliners.

Expect a lot more concert announcements to come for Bank of America Stadium, Panthers execs have said. Most of those will have to be concentrated during warm weather months, of course. If and when Tepper does eventually build a new stadium with a roof, it will be interesting to see what types of large-scale events he can bring here.
