We are thrilled to share with you Boyan Slat's presentation of The Interceptor: it is collecting plastics from the rivers, before it enters the sea! Let's close the tap.
Their goal: 1000 rivers to be cleaned in 5 years. 1000 rivers count for 80% of the plastic soup entering the oceans.

Interceptor no 001 is active in Jakarta, no 002 Malaysia, 003 preparing for Vietnam, 004 to be shipped to the Dominican Republic. At least 996 rivers to follow the coming 5 years. 


Rotary EndPlasticSoup
started by the Clubs of Amsterdam, is addressing the end-to-end reduction, prevention and removal of plastic pollution in our environment. It is a global initiative, already supported by 3500 Rotarians from 800 Rotary & Rotaract clubs to beat plastic pollution.
 
Our ambition: In 2050 there is no more plastic soup in the oceans and no more plastic waste in our environment. Rotarians all over the world help to solve this problem.

 

1. Our Goal - No plastic in our environment by 2050

  • Increase our impact worldwide and in our local communities
  • Rethink the process: Reduce, reuse, recycle & remove plastic
  • Support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and grow a viable visible Rotary across generations & cultures

2. Our Objectives 2020-2025 - Reduce the plastic waste in our environment by

  • Support from an additional 3,000 Rotary Clubs each year during 2020 – 2025
  • 300,000 Rotarians (and their families, friends) confirm they reduce plastic and clean up
  • Local clubs train an additional 100,000 children each year
  • Rotary (international) meetings and events become single-use plastic-free asap
  • A Rotary “Plastic Free code of conduct” has been drawn up for Rotary clubs

3. Expand our reach - Awareness, Actions & Alliances

  • Awareness of 1.2 mio Rotarians, their families, friends, colleagues and their communities, grow participation
  • Actions: build awareness locally and worldwide
  • Alliances for local & global solutions, increase Rotary’s openness, create new channels.

4. Enhance participant engagement – Take action to create lasting change

  • Making a Difference, celebrate measurable results for our communities
  • Be the Inspiration, welcome new generations, new solutions and approaches
  • Connect the World, inside and outside Rotary, the Rotary International network offers opportunities for worldwide collaboration to solve the complex plastic pollution problem.

5. Increase our ability to adapt - The Rotary Wheel in motion

  • Increasing speed of action, use and activate the Rotary network
  • Inspiring across generations, innovate and rethink our world
  • Collaborating across districts, countries, across cultures and generations.
     

6. Values of Rotary – Service above Self

  • Fellowship, Integrity, Diversity, Service and Leadership
  • Our principles, the 4-Way Test and the six Areas of Focus
  • We all take our responsibility, respect local priorities and use worldwide collaboration.
