Dear <<First Name>>,

Today is Halloween (a contracted version of “All Hallow’s Evening”). Halloween is celebrated the night before All Saints’ Day on November 1 each year. Of course, Halloween is a High Holy Day in the Queer community – a day of amazing costumes and fabulous parties. I hope that you will have a lovely evening – no matter how you celebrate this holiday.

For me, All Hallow’s Evening and All Saints’ Day is a time to remember and honor loved ones who have died. Both my parents have died, and all of my grandparents. Celtic peoples believed that All Hallow’s Evening was a “thin place,” or a place or time where one is particularly close, or perhaps more open, to the Sacred. When we encounter a thin place, it can be an invitation to deeper reflection or connection.

And so tonight, even as children come to our door to Trick-or-Treat, I will take a few moments to light a candle and say a prayer to remember my loved ones who have died. I will think of my grandparents and parents – my elders – who have crossed over. It will be a moment to give thanks for all they gave me, and a moment to acknowledge how much I still miss them.

Some of you are experiencing deep grief after the loss (or losses) of a loved one. I invite you to take a moment, either tonight or sometime tomorrow, to remember those you love who have died. Take a moment to honor them, to remember their unique spirit. Give thanks for who they were to you during their lives.

We don’t have many rituals around grief anymore. Halloween and All Saints’ Day are days that our ancestors in faith set aside for remembering those who have died. So this year, I invite you to take a moment today or tomorrow to remember those you’ve lost. Give thanks for who they were in your life. Then go give your loved ones who are still alive a big hug - just because you can.

Peace,

Project Day at PPMCC

Saturday, November 9, 9AM–Noon
Carpets, Dove Room and Kitchen Love!

We had such a great crew last month for our outdoor clean up day.  Thank you to everyone who was there, and let's take that energy inside!

We've got a couple of carpet cleaners, and if you have one, please bring it! If you have a truck, please bring it too as we will need some donations to go to Habitat or Goodwill... and does anybody have a "square head" screwdriver, wood glue and a clamp for a couple of chair repairs?  Or how about replacing the newer stove in the Dove Room with the one in kitchen that needs retiring??? Our hospitality team would love that!  These are some of the projects on our list, Bea has more–time permitting.   Not to worry if you don’t have tools or trucks, come anyway; many hands are a great help!

Let's get our building all sparkly and more functional before the busy holiday season. E-mail Rev. Diane for more information or call 719-233-8982.  No need to sign up, just show up.  We'll have the coffee on, 9AM - Noon on November 9th.

Thanksgiving Basket Project

Westside CARES will be providing Thanksgiving baskets to families on the west side of Colorado Springs. To help with this project, PPMCC has been asked to donate 80 cans of Fruit, 20 Large/60 Small, (think canned fruit cocktail, mandarin oranges, peaches, etc. and NOT cranberries.  Or fruit that could be put in a jello salad, as they will have jello in their baskets), and 1-4 Turkeys or Hams for the baskets.

Please drop cans off in the box located in the social hall; turkeys & hams can go in the Church kitchen fridge or the freezer located in the Kitchen. If you’d like to make a cash donation instead, please drop it by the church.  All donations are due at the church by Sunday, Nov. 17.
