Hi everyone!

I'd like to give a big thanks to Bob Richardson for his informative talk on macro and close up photography at our last meeting. And also, thank you for explaining things and helping us out at the field trip. Some of us were lucky as the Lodge had just tented the week before our field trip, so we came across some "specimens" to use as models. Afterwards, we had a nice little 5-Year Anniversary party/luncheon inside the Lodge. Good food, good drinks, good people and lots of fun! Thanks everyone for making it a great time. Let's hear it for another 5+ years!

For those who attended, could you please send me an image from that day so I can share it on the website (and IG)? Thanks so much!

And while I'm doling out thank you's, we all need to give a big thanks to Hugh Hudson for organizing and leading us all in the KelbyOne PhotoWalk through downtown Homestead. Thank you Hugh! Fun was had by all!

Lots of info to take in with this newsletter. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea (or whatever your pleasure) and take a few minutes to read rest of the email below. We have lots of events coming up. Read all about them and participate. And starting this month, we're including individual member events (YAY!). So if you have a personal photography related event you'd like to share, let us know!

And in closing, if I don't see you beforehand, on behalf of all of the Officers and Directors of the SFNPCC, we wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving!  Hope to see you all soon!

Do YOU have an upcoming event you'd like to promote through the SFNPCC newsletter and on our website? We've discussed and approved promoting our members' individual activities, so let me have them! GIVE MIAMI DAY

As you may or may not know, membership in the SFNPCC includes membership in the Florida National Parks Association (FNPA). Since its inception in 1951, the FNPA has provided more than 4.1 million dollars in aid to the National Park Service areas of South Florida. As stewards of the FNPA, it is our privilege to give aid and support when possible. The FNPA is participating in the "Give Miami Day" on Nov. 21st. If possible, consider a donation. Click on the image or link HERE for more infomation.

The FNPA is looking for donations on "Give Miami Day" to supplement four projects, listed below.
  • Debris Cleanup
  • Van for Educational Programs & Eco-Education Adventures
  • Providing Aid to NPS
  • Volunteers in Parks Program

About the FNPA

The FNPA supports five very different National Park units: Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, Biscayne National Park, Dry Tortugas National Park, & Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Between them, these parks shelter the last remnants of what was once a vast sub-tropical Eco-system, stretching southward from Lake Okeechobee to the sea. Today, the abundance and diversity of natural life and habitat found in the South Florida National Park units are unparalleled in the United States. The parks play a significant role in many local economies and are the subject of global attention for their ecological importance. Held in public trust, these unique natural systems of South Florida offer visitors, non-visitors, scientists, and the surrounding community extraordinary opportunities for learning, for enjoyment, and for preserving an extraordinary piece of our nation's natural, cultural, and historic heritage.

CAMPING AT DUPUIS MANAGEMENT AREA DEC. 13TH - 16TH
We've reserved the group camping section at the DuPuis Management Area, just south and a little bit east of Port Mayaca and Lake Okeechobee, for the weekend of Dec. 13-16th. This will be in conjunction with the Geminid Meteor Shower so it should be a great opportunity for night photography.

Our wonderful and generous friends, Judy & Merv Waldman, are throwing the club a fantastic Christmas/Holiday party at the Palace Gardens in Homestead! We put out feelers a month ago, but now we're looking for firm RSVPs on who is coming so they can be prepared for all of us.

Date is Wednesday December 18th. Cocktails at 6pm, dinner to follow. This is sure to be a good time! But, we need definite RSVPs by December 1st. So don't wait too long! CLICK HERE TO RSVP.

We just received the early-bird notification for the upcoming Florida Camera Club Council (FCCC) annual conference to be held March 6th - 8th, in Fort Myers. If you've previously registered with the FCCC you should have received this memo in your email as well. If you're interested, follow the email's directions and sign up.

If you ARE NOT registered with the FCCC (you're automatically a member if you're a member of the SFNPCC) go and do that now! Click here for the FCCC WEBSITE's membership page. Because even though you're automatically a member of the FCCC, you still have to register. Once you do that, you'll be able to enter the many competitions they have throughout the year and get special pricing at the FCCC annual conference! So don't delay... join today!

Oh, and there's a special guest going to be there as one of the official speakers... shhhh, gotta click the link to find out. Be sure to register before the end of the year to get the 'early-bird' price.
ALL UPDATES - ANYTIME!

Do you know where to find the latest info for meetings and field trips? Our WEBSITE! Our website is www.sfnpcc.org I like to keep a shortcut linked on my computer's desktop, and my phone, so I can easily connect when I need fast info. Maybe you would too!

SOCIAL MEDIA

SFNPCC is on Instagram!
@sfnpcc_club
Our IG account is well in use. Any images you send will be properly tagged and uploaded for folks to see. So be sure to send me a photo or two from any SFNPCC event!

To find us on Instagram, search for our group name or click here sfnpcc_club. If you prefer me to NOT share on social media, please just say so and I'll leave it off.

Facebook Page & Group

The club has 2 official Facebook (FB) groups. One is a FB public "page", and the other is a private "group".

The public page is for viewing by the general public; everyone can see and participate. And if you're on FB, you can find it by typing the full name of the club, in the search bar. Or click here PUBLIC PAGE.

Our private FB group is for members only. To join the group, type SFNPCC Members in the search box, and click "JOIN" to request (or click PRIVATE GROUP). If you're a current member of the club, I'll accept you.

Feel free to share club photos, ask for critiques, and ask photography related questions here. This is also where I create our field trip "events" (in addition to our website, of course). We created this private FB account so that we could discuss freely any photography related items without the prying eyes of the general public. Enjoy!

We have a gallery tab on our website, and it's full of images. If you go to the website and click on the Galleries tab, you'll find images from our previous trips, weekends away, our Facebook challenges, and other various events.

Recently added photos include the Scavenger Hunt from July. So be sure to visit and enjoy each other's photos.

Going forward, during each field trip and weekend away, we're taking an attendance of participants. After the event is over, we'll email you all separately to ask to submit a photo or two for the website. We're asking this so we can document the trip and show people who stumble onto our website that we are an active and viable club, worthy of membership! So please, try to remember to send me an image or two.

If you're one who likes to keep his or her work for sales or gallery shows, by all means, keep it for those events, but please share something. Even if you have a good photo of the group shooting or having fun. Those are always welcome too.
So that's all I have for November. Hope to see you at our events. Have a great month, and Happy Thanksgiving!
