Request from Caregiving Commission

handsHave you moved recently? Gotten a new email address? Any other changes in your household? Please review the information in the church directory to make sure it is up-to-date. The Caregiving Commission checks the directory frequently to make sure we are keeping in touch with all of our current, regular attenders. Also, it is a great way for attenders to connect with each other. You can send any changes to the church office.

Congregational Potluck Meal & Meeting

saladOn Sunday, November 10, everyone is invited to gather for the congregational meal and meeting following the nurture hour, 12:00 p.m. Bring a main dish and a salad or dessert to share.

SUCCESSFUL POTLUCK TIPS:
  1. The ovens will only be used for warming! They are always full of dishes, therefore they will not cook your food. Please bring your dish already warm or in a crock-pot.
  2. Because of the new line configuration, we are asking that table service/baskets not be put on the wall opposite the bathrooms. Suggestions: coat closets, Jubilee Hall, under mailboxes.
  3. Please bring your own table service! This allows Fellowship members to clean up quickly and make it to the congregational meeting.
- Thank you on behalf of the Fellowship Commission!

The meeting will begin after the meal. It is expected to be a fairly short meeting so childcare not be provided. If your children would like to play in the Jubilee Hall or playground, a parent should plan to be with them. Alternatively, all children are welcome in the sanctuary. Coloring pages and a basket of crayons will be available for them.

The agenda for the meeting includes:
  1. Approve minutes of the August meeting.
  2. Hear a financial report.
  3. Update on the next pastor-congregational review.
  4. Clarifying pastoral roles.

Creation Care at Berkey

solar panelThe 42 panels atop Berkey church building have produced over 24 megawatts of energy. An equivalent amount of energy produced by Indiana coal power would emit over 19 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Increased concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere results in temperature rise. The primary source of increased CO2 emissions is  the burning of fossil fuels to meet our energy demands.

In addition to the solar production at our church building, eight Berkey families have installed solar panels at their homes. The cumulative production of the Berkey community is 240 megawatts of energy. The solar production of the Berkey community has prevented over 181 tons of C02 production. That is the equivalent of planting over 9000 trees.

Installing solar panels on your home is a great way to care for the earth. Are you interested in learning more about solar energy production? Are you curious about the steps needed to become a solar producer? The creation care committee would be delighted to provide information, and answer questions regarding solar production. To start your journey towards solar energy production contact James Yoder.

Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS)

AMBS will host Michiana Voices for Middle East Peace on Thursday, November 7, 7:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount. Michiana Voices for Middle East Peace member Jonathan Brenneman will discuss the practical aspects of confronting Christian Zionism in our churches and with our neighbors. Jonathan worked as Israel/Palestine Partners in Peacemaking Coordinator for Mennonite Church USA, and was a Member of Christian Peacemaker Teams Palestine in Hebron/ Al-Khalil. In our part of the country many people believe that unequivocally supporting the modern state of Israel is part of their Christian mandate. They often have little understanding of the plight of Palestinians living under Israeli rule. Jonathan will discuss various reasons this distorted belief came to be in order to offer advice on how to lovingly challenge people to change. Come prepared to have a lively conversation, and interactive session. All are welcome and admission is free for everyone.

When Ecuador’s president, Lenín Moreno, ended fuel subsidies last month, unrest erupted. Indigenous and other marginalized people seized the opportunity to protest inequalities in government policies. Mennonite Mission Network requests prayer for negotiations as the government and indigenous people work to create a just policy that will lead to peace.
