Natasha Hausdorff:

Cutting through the misleading headlines and the abuse of international law, to address the legal situation on settlements
We are delighted to announce that Natasha Hausdorff, a Barrister at Six Pump Court Chambers in London and a Director of UK Lawyers for Israel will be speaking in Dublin on Saturday 16th November, followed by a Q&A.

Natasha is a very engaging speaker and an expert on international law, including the law of armed conflict, foreign affairs and national security policy. She holds law degrees from Oxford and Tel Aviv Universities and was a Fellow in the National Security Law Programme at Columbia Law School in New York.

Natasha previously worked for American law firm Skadden Arps, in London and Brussels, and clerked for the President of the Israeli Supreme Court, Chief Justice Miriam Naor, in Jerusalem. Natasha sits on the Committee of the UK Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists and is a member of the JD Corps of the World Jewish Congress.

The Frances Black Bill and the Misapplication of International Law

Last year Senator Frances Black launched the ‘Control of Economic Activities (Occupied Territories)’ Bill 2018. The Bill’s purpose of prohibiting the import and sale of goods, services and natural resources originating from Jewish settlements in the ‘West Bank’ is predicated on the notion these settlements are illegal.

Natasha Hausdorff will cut through the misleading headlines and the abuse of international law, to addresses the legal situation on settlements.

There are few better examples of where politics and international law converge or where legal and political issues are conflated to such an extent. The words “illegal settlements” inextricably linked with “illegal occupation”, are frequently and forcefully invoked as the lynchpin of settlement criticism.

An objective analysis of the legal position on settlements requires examination of the status of the territory and the relevant treaty and customary provisions of international law, as well as an assessment of the treatment of settlement projects in genuine situations of occupation around the world.

Very importantly, Natasha will provide us with the tools to use when confronted by the BDS narrative.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A.
