Make it Happen: Isabel's Coat Drive
Isabel Hernandez, an 8th grader at Nimitz Middle School, wanted to do this Make it Happen project to help collect coats for anyone in need as the winter months approach. She and her mom met with the general manager of Burlington Coat Factory and asked if they could partner with the company get the coats to needy families. They were very excited to join in on this effort to help us. Not only is Burlington on board, so is NJHS and Student Council at her campus. We want your help to get your school involved as well!
There are collection boxes and signs placed around their campus, and on Fridays, they stand outside in the mornings and afternoons to promote and collect coats for the drive. Every Friday, beginning Nov. 1st, they will be taking the collected coats to drop off at Burlington with our final drop off date Dec. 16th. Isabel would like this to be the “big reveal” as for the number of coats that this project was able to collect!
You can show your support by donating new or gently worn jackets, sweatshirts, coats, windbreakers, sweaters, etc. or sign up to promote and collect coats! Students can take leadership roles at their schools and SOS can help with donation bins and picking up the coats if needed. Students who participate can earn service hours for their work.
To get involved, or if you have any questions, contact Cheryl Hernandez (cheryl@sossanantonio.org).
