The Moon Is Rising - Come Celebrate With Us!

OCTOBER UPDATE

There is a full moon every 28 days, but far rarer is the chance to be so close to the moon that you can almost touch it. This coming Halloween weekend, the Fund-‘rising’ event of the year will take place at Unscripted Hotel, with music, dancing, drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres, all under the incredible light of Museum of the Moon.

Most exciting is that this amazing event is raising funds for Keep Durham Beautiful! We hope you'll join us througout the weekend and especially at the all-inclusive Bull Moon Ball on Friday, November 1st from 8pm to midnight for an evening of fun under the moon.

This event will sell out, click here to get your tickets now!

Durham E-Waste/Textile Recycling & Paper Shredding This Weekend!

Durham residents looking for an easy way to recycle electronic waste (anything with a cord), old textiles and clothing, and shred confidential documents should attend the City of Durham’s FREE E-Waste, Textile Recycling and Paper Shredding event this Saturday, October 19th from 8AM to 2PM. The event will be held at the Durham County Memorial Stadium (750 Stadium Dr) on the home side parking lot. Staff will be on hand to assist with unloading items.

Accepted E-waste items include nearly all electronic devices with a cord. This event will NOT accept large appliances, refrigerators, air conditioners or any other appliances that contain Freon in non-working condition. Can’t attend this event? You can still recycle old electronics at no charge at the City’s Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, located at 2115 E. Club Blvd.

Textile Recycling will be accepted on site by Green Zone Recycling. Items should be dry and clean and can be in less-than-perfect condition (worn, torn or stained).

Confidential paper shredding will also be provided on site during this event. Paper may contain paper clips and staples but hanging file folders will not be accepted. All paper should be loose and not in binders or other binding items not made of paper. Residents may observe their document shredding if the amount can fit into one 96-gallon roll cart (approximately 240 pounds of material or eight small, banker boxes of material).

We're more than halfway through Big Sweep, but the momentum is still going strong! There are still plenty of opportunities to get involved, including volunteer events with the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and ECWA.

Why is Big Sweep so important?Check out this interview our Executive Director Tania Dautlick gave to CBS17 earlier this month!
The Triangle ASHRAE and Durham NAWIC Chapters are teaming up for a special event for the Jordan High School cross country team on November 2nd! This project is part of a grant from Durham Open Space and Trails for Keep Durham Beautiful, that also involved other aspects like placing gravel on muddy sections of the trail, working to improve sections where water and sewer lines go through trail, and allowing trail to be more usable as a green way for City of Durham residents.
