November is a month of crisp cool days, and warm Thanksgiving celebrations spent with family and friends. But November is also a month of patriotism. We get the chance to show our love for this great country in two ways.

On November 5th, we get to participate in the democratic process. In Eagle, the office of the Mayor and two city council seats are for election, as well as one seat on the Eagle Fire Protection District Commission. On Tuesday the 5th, I encourage all citizens to turn out and vote in the municipal election!

November 11th is Veterans Day, the day we honor those who have served our country in the military. The Boise Veterans Day parade is happening a little early this year, on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Idaho Statehouse. I will be participating in the parade as a veteran and representing Eagle. The City of Eagle is also hosting an event to honor veterans and active-duty military. Join me at the Eagle Senior Center on Saturday, November 9th for the Veterans Breakfast. Volunteers will be serving up a hot breakfast for free for veterans, active military members, and their families. I hope to see you there!

Municipal Elections

Tuesday, November 5th is Election Day! Some things to know:
  • Early voting is available through November 1st. On that day there will be a mobile voting trailer at Eagle City Hall.
  • You can view a sample ballot and find your polling place on the Ada County Elections Website.
  • On Election Day Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  •  In Idaho, you will need to bring a state-issued ID, tribal card, U.S. passport or current student ID with you to vote. If you forget your photo ID, you will be allowed to sign a Personal Identification Affidavit, if you are already a registered voter.
  • If you need to register to vote or update your voter registration you will need to bring proof of residency. Proof of residency documents can include vehicle registration, a utility bill, or a bank statement with your name and address on it.
  • If you requested an absentee ballot, it must be received by the Ada County Elections Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Quilters and Fiber Artists, the Eagle Arts Commission wants you to be a part of the Winter Holiday Quilt and Fiber Exhibit. The art show is an open exhibition coordinated by the City of Eagle Arts Commission and the Boise Basin Quilters’ Guild. The exhibit takes place at the Eagle Senior Center on December 7, 2019, from noon to 5:00 pm.

The deadline to submit artwork is coming up soon! You must submit an application with photos of the artwork by November 7th at 5:00 pm. Entries may be emailed to ArtsCommission@cityofeagle.org or hand-delivered (during regular business hours) or mailed to Eagle City Hall. There is no entry fee.

Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 3, 2019. While cellphones, computers, and any other "smart" devices in your home set themselves back an hour automatically, remember to change the other clocks in your house and your car. While you are changing your clocks it is also a great idea to take a little time and change the batteries in your smoke detectors. The U.S. Fire Administration and the National Fire Prevention Association also recommend looking for the date of manufacture on your smoke alarms and replacing any that are more than 10 years old.

Downtown Eagle Holiday Decorations

The City of Eagle Public Works Department will be putting up the Downtown Eagle Holiday Decorations in late November. The lights and decorations will be along Old State Street and in Heritage Park. The lights will be turned on starting around Thanksgiving with the exception of the Christmas Tree in Heritage Park. The Christmas Tree will be lit during a ceremony at the end of Eagle Country Christmas on December 7th.
City of Eagle employees and volunteers are collecting gifts and holiday supplies for residents of the Spring Creek Assisted Living Center in Eagle. To view a list of donation suggestions please visit our website cityofeagle.org/elves.
Stop by Eagle City Hall to write a letter to Santa! Starting on November 4th there will be stationery and a special mailbox in the Eagle City Hall lobby. All letters that go in the mailbox go directly to Santa, and he writes back! The mailbox will also be at Eagle Country Christmas.
