Three Recommended Podcast Episodes Every Humpday

I'm trying to overtake Inside Podcasting's subscriber count so please forward this email to friends and tell them to click on this link to subscribe.
Try to contain your excitement. I'm going to try to make RSS sexy. (Ok, that's not true but this may help you immensely.)

If you like the recommendations I've been slaving over each week for you but you manually input each one into your podcast app, you must hate yourself (and me). Yes, I've posted instructions on how to make this easier for you but now it's even more accessible.

Starting with this edition, at the bottom, you'll see super easy instructions on how to get all my previous main recommendations into your mobile device.

You are most certainly welcome.

Don't Sleep On This

The Skimmer’s Hook: Do you believe everything you see and read? It's getting harder by the day.

Listen if you like: Believing What You See, A.I., Faking It

If you think a story about artificial intelligence isn’t your thang, think twice. You know me - I like not to take things all that seriously. And A.I.? Not for everyone. But I’m here to write and say that you reeeeaaaallllyyyy need to listen to this episode.

Yes, you know all about fake stuff on Facebook. Maybe you’ve even seen this creepier than creepy deep fake Full House video. But what are the ways it’s all around you even if you aren’t on social media and/or love Ron Swanson?

This episode will make you stop and think. But it’s not all bad. By complete coincidence, they talk about a good use of A.I. that is connected to the recommendation right below.

Podcast: Sleepwalkers - Truth to Power  (41 mins)

Today, I consider myself…

The Skimmer’s Hook: Where did the wettest Internet challenge in history originate?

Listen if you like: Silly Internet stuff for good, The Iron Horse

… the coldest man on the face of the earth.

Did you ever do the Ice Bucket Challenge? Me neither. Actually, that’s a half-truth. I didn’t dump cold water on my head but I did it to my nephew. Ahh, the satisfaction.

So where did this viral act come from? And how much did it help the cause? After listening, film yourself bathing in a tub of soy sauce and chili and tag three friends. If you don’t, you have to donate money to my newsletter.

Podcast: The Lead - Ice Ice Bucket (20 mins)  (Scroll to Sept 18, 2019 episode)

Let’s Run That Back Again

The Skimmer’s Hook: What are your favorite movie endings that had a big twist?

Listen if you like: Surprises, Movies

If you love movies, there’s a chance you’ve had this discussion with your friends because it’s a lot of fun to recall those times where your jaw dropped into your bowl of Raisinets and popcorn. We’re not talking about Bambi’s mother not being dead. We’re talking the surprises that if you’re at home, you immediately go back and watch it again to see where your thickheadedness let you down.

Yes, this episode is one big spoiler after another and is a lot of fun if you've seen these films. The two hosts list their top 5. Note that all of the movies mentioned came out before the turn of the century so the statute of limitations is long gone. One of them is from 1968 that scarred me when I saw it as a kid on tv many years later.

Personal note: the very first movie they mention is one of my favorites. It’s one that I always bring up if people say they like twists because it’s not as well known as others.

Podcast: After The Ending - Top 5 Twist Endings (22 mins)

Extra Hot Sauce

Not ready to introduce your 3-year old to true stories from the dark side of the Internet? Here’s something familiar yet completely opposite from Jack Rhysider and Story Time. (12 mins)

This Brittany Howard Song Exploder is my 3rd favorite episode behind Fleetwood Mac and Courtney Barnett. Several years back, I killed Alabama Shakes’ debut mainly because of Howard. (18 mins)

One more podcast event of the year (I think). Find me at Third Coast if you are going. Not confirmed but I may be giving out reusable straws.
