ALIA Schools promotes the interests of school libraries and teacher-librarians, provides opportunities for professional development, lobbies for school libraries with state and local groups, liaises with other groups, identifies and analyses current trends in teacher librarianship, and maintains the profile of teacher-librarianship within ALIA.

Lead with your collection through Open Educational Resources and STEM
 
The next professional learning activity is a webinar. The final webinar for the year is titled: Lead with your collection through Open Educational Resources and STEM and will be held via GoToWebinar on Tuesday 12 November 2019 at 8.00pm AESDT.
 
We are very pleased to announce that Dr Marcia A. Mardis, Professor and Associate Dean, College of Communication and Information, Florida State University will be our guest speaker. Dr Mardis is a historian, former teacher librarian, technologist and technician identity researcher. She has led the America Association of School Librarians’ Standards Editorial Board and chaired writing efforts that have culminated in the internationally recognised and ground-breaking National School Library Standards for Learners, school librarians and school libraries.

This one hour, online seminar is for primary and secondary teacher librarians and others who are responsible for school library services and/or involved in learning and teaching programs.

Teacher librarians can lead via the building, curation and maintenance of the school library collection particularly in using open educational resources. There will be an emphasis with regards to STEM and the ethical use of Creative Commons.

Please note this activity is linked to the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:
  • Standard 2: Know the content and how to teach it with the specific focus on 2.6 Information and communication technology (ICT).
  • Standard 4: Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments with the specific focus on 4.5 Use ICT safely, responsibly and ethically.
