To support contractors engage with the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) we will be sending a weekly communication every Friday to highlight key milestones and activities. Following your feedback we will also be breaking the tasks into smaller sections to make this more manageable. With the amount of activity needed it is going to be really important that you don’t delay and complete tasks every week.

GMLPCs PCN Locality Events

To support you and your teams, Greater Manchester LPC are hosting a number of Primary Care Network locality events which are a MUST ATTEND session. We have now hosted the first two of our events, which were well received. The first was in Manchester on the 2nd October, followed by Tameside and Glossop on Wednesday 16th October. Please make sure you have booked your place at the event in your locality so that you don't miss out on your chance to meet other community pharmacy colleagues in your network and the opportunity to claim your PQS payment. Further details are in the Locality section of this newsletter or can be found here.

Smartcard access

We have been made aware that a number of contractors and locums have faced challenges in obtaining smartcards and appropriate access, particularly multi-site (FFFFF code). We have worked with the RA in simplifying the process for you in Greater Manchester.

Under the new CPCF, it is imperative that pharmacists have the appropriate access to deliver services such as CPCS where SCR access is vital in assessing patients suitability for the emergency supply element of the service and clinical assessment in the minor conditions element. To this end GMLPC is working to support the workforce in removing any barriers to delivery. Click here for further information

The HUHY Stay Well This Winter campaign is one of six campaigns, which have been agreed between PSNC and NHS England and NHS Improvement, as part of the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework; therefore, all contractors must participate in this campaign. For further information click here

Class 2 Medicines recall: Ranitidine Effervescent Tablets 150mg and 300mg

The Medicines and Health products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a class 2 medicines recall for:

Ranitidine Effervescent Tablets 150mg and 300mg (Teva UK Limited trading as ratiopharm GmbH)

Teva UK Ltd is recalling all unexpired stock of the above products from pharmacies as a precautionary measure due to possible contamination with an impurity N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) which has genotoxic and carcinogenic potential (click here for product details table)

Advice for healthcare professionals
  • Please stop supplying the listed products immediately. All remaining stock should be quarantined and returned to your supplier using your supplier’s approved process.
  • Advise patients not to stop taking their medication as the health risk of discontinuing the medicine is higher than the potential risk presented by the contaminant. A treatment review is not necessary until the next routine appointment.

  1. the medicine is required to meet the needs of UK patients;
  2. the medicine is either being parallel exported or is at threat of being parallel exported; and
