Small Groups Respecting Flow of Conversation

Thomas Jefferson school logoIn the small groups for guided reading in third grade, these students are learning to communicate without raising their hands. The class discussed how at home most of them don't raise their hands at the dinner table, but they still understand the structure and flow of conversation in a small group setting. They are practicing and applying those skills to the discussions about nonfiction texts and what they expected to learn from the books.

Film Action: Writing, Directing, Acting, Editing

George Mason school logoThis group of IB Film Study, HL 2, students are creating a short film-documentary about a high school student's journey. The students have complete artistic freedom to come up with their own story and script. Each student is playing a specific role in the project, including Director, Screenwriter, Sound Designer, Editor, Actor(s), etc. but they are all working collaboratively on the same project. These students are benefiting from a great working relationship with the FCCTV staff that includes the use of their state of the art equipment to complete this project. Students submit the Collaborative Film Project for assessment.

Finding the Related Clues to Get the Answer

Mt Daniel school logoGifted teacher Ms. Green is visiting all the second-grade classrooms to play the "String Game," which uses Venn Diagrams and sets of shapes. The students practice putting labels above the circles and then placing the shapes in the appropriate spots. Next, in teams, the game is played with labels turned backward. The students don't know what they say and will have to use the information gathered during the game to figure it out. The object is to correctly place all of the shapes and then accurately identify what the labels say.

Wear Orange Today
Making Ending Bullying the Common Goal

ME Henderson school logoHenderson Huskies are dressing for and discussing anti-bullying messages all this week. Yesterday students left, and staff wore favorite team sports jerseys to "team up against bullying." Today is Unity Day when the school celebrates and raises awareness for acceptance, kindness, and inclusion. All Huskies are encouraged to wear orange today to show support for the Henderson community uniting together against bullying.
The remainder of the dress themes for this week:
Today - wear orange to show unity for National Unity Day
Thursday - dress like one of the school's principals to be a Princi-PAL
Friday - wear pajamas to finally put bullying to sleep
