Midweek Update for October 23

Sunday, October 27: Being Church Together

Last Sunday we looked at our new Mission Statement and Core Values, claiming we need God to empower us on our journey and admitting we do not know all of what lies ahead. This week, we listen to Paul's encouragement for a congregation to treat each member with gentleness and compassion, even as each person should be filled with the word of Christ. So we will pay attention to how Paul's instructions may shape us during this time of living into a new mission statement and using our core values as foundational attitudes from which we carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ as a congregation together.

Vision Conversation: Sunday at 9:00 AM
During the October 27 Sunday School time, all adults are encouraged to attend a discussion of our new Mission Statement and Core Values that were developed at our Visioning Summit. This is a time to clarify ideas and answer questions. Join us at 9 AM next Sunday in the Christian Life Center.

MISSION STATEMENT

We Embrace God’s creation, Explore God’s purpose for our lives and Extend love and respect to all.

CORE VALUES

Grace:             We proclaim God’s unconditional love.

Acceptance:   We affirm the inherent value of every person.

Commitment: Our actions demonstrate our faithfulness to God and one                                    another.

YOU are welcome here….

SERIOUSLY

We need your help! As many of you know, Trunk or Treat is a large community event that FCC hosts each year. Last year we had an incredible turnout and roughly 300 people attended! FCC provided around 30 trunks for children to visit. This year we only have ten people signed up for trunks so far. FCC is looking for volunteers to decorate your trunk and pass out candy during Trunk or Treat this year.  You don't even have to decorate and we can provide candy if needed. Please come out and help support this important event! Click here to volunteer or sign up in the gathering area at church. Or just show up by 2:40 Sunday afternoon to set up your trunk.

FCC is still collecting candy donations in preparation for Trunk-or-Treat this year. If you would like to donate candy, please drop it off in the bin in the gathering area near the Trunk or Treat Sign Up.
Thanksgiving Outreach Team Challenge
War Eagle or Roll Tide? This year, as part of our holiday outreach, FCC will be sponsoring Thanksgiving meals for 50 families in partnership with Oak Mountain Ministries. Lists of the foods needed will be distributed in the coming week. Then we need you all to bring your game face! Donations will be placed on a team table of the contributor’s choosing, and the table with the most donations wins bragging rights for the next year! And if you don't claim either team there will be a table for you too.

Collections will start at the church on Sunday, November 3rd and will go through Wednesday, November 20th. Families will come directly to the church on Saturday, November 23rd to pick up their meals. This is a great opportunity to speak with these families and learn more about people in our community. Please contact Kimberly Jones or Sarah Ford if you are interested in helping to distribute meals on November 23rd. We will announce the challenge winners on Sunday, November 24th!
If you would like to sign up to provide a snack supper for our Sunday Evening Kids and Youth Programming, please click here.
New Beginnings Luncheon After Worship November 10
If you are relatively new to First Christian, or are interesting in learning more about the congregation, or wish you knew where to get involved - come have lunch and conversation on November 10 from 11:30-1:30. This small group gathering is designed especially for people who want to know more about who we are and how you can connect in ministry and mission, even if you have been attending First Christian for quite some time or have only been here once before. Contact the church office to sign up (so we'll have a count for lunch preparation) or Robin Blakemore for more information.
The Adventure Nook, FCC's Mother's Day Out and Preschool, Christmas Program and Silent Auction will be held the evening of Tuesday, December 10th at 6:00 pm. The Adventure Nook is looking for donations of items that can be auctioned to raise money for the program. If you would like to donate an item or a talent, please email Donna Penn.

Our church participates in Global Ministries through individuals like our Global Mission Partner, Elena Huegel. If you would like to see highlights of a program that Elena has been leading in Mexico, where she is currently serving, click here.
