Principal's Message
Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend! The weather yesterday afternoon was a perfect, crisp Fall day, and I appreciated being able to get outside with my family. Thank you for attending Parent Teacher Conferences over the last two weeks. Staff always appreciate the opportunity to share the growth students have made in the first few months of school. We are proud to work in a community with such strong parent support and thank you for your partnership.
Halloween
Halloween activities will occur this Thursday afternoon, and we welcome you to join us. Please remember no full face masks, blood, or weapons when planning costumes. Our all-school Halloween Parade will begin at 2:30 PM with students parading through the halls to show one another their costumes before heading outside. Parents are welcome to line the sidewalks along our playground as shown in the map below. In the event of heavy rain, the parade will be held indoors. Because classrooms will be lining the hallways, we ask parents to sign in at the office before congregating in the gymnasium.
Cold Weather Reminders
As fall days often fluctuate between warm and cool days, please help your child enjoy the school day and recess by making sure that your child comes to school dressed for the weather. Children enjoy outdoor activity and will go outside for recess, weather permitting. When it is wet but not raining, we will go outside, but may close certain areas of the playground that are muddy. Thank you for sending your child with cold weather attire as our seasons change.
Warm Regards,
Carlye Allen

Kids Have Rights
Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, East Grand Rapids Public Schools presented the body safety program, Kids Have Rights to students in kindergarten through 4th grade. Kids Have Rights is a program offered through The Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County. This program meets the requirements outlined in Erin's Law (signed into law January 2013) for Michigan elementary students. The Kids Have Rights lessons incorporate information on:
-
The “Rights” all kids have to keep themselves safe.
-
Identifying the Safe Adults in a child’s life they can go to if they need help.
-
Recognizing different kinds of touches (safe vs. unsafe).
The Kids Have Rights material is presented in a non-threatening way and is different for each grade level. This ensures the information is age and developmentally appropriate.
Additional information, including an opt out form, went home with students last week. You can also learn more about the program by visiting the Kids Have Rights website. If you have questions or would like additional information please contact me (callen@egrps.org) or Mrs. Jen Doyle (jdoyle@egrps.org), our School Social Worker.
Veterans Day Assembly
Wealthy Elementary School invites all relatives and friends of our school community who have served or are serving in the United States military to join us on Monday, November 11 at 2:30 PM for our annual Veterans Day Assembly. Our Student Leadership Team is hosting a reception for Veterans in Pioneer Lobby at 2:05 PM. In order to plan for the reception, please click here to RSVP.
We will once again include a picture slideshow of family members who have served in the armed forces. If you have submitted a picture in the past it will remain in our slideshow and does not need to be resubmitted. We welcome any new additions! Please send pictures including the name of the person, branch in which he/she served, and the relation to our Wealthy wizard to my email callen@egrps.org by Wednesday, November 6, 2019.
