THE SCHOOL LIBRARY NEEDS YOUR HELP

We are in DESPERATE NEED of VOLUNTEERS for the Claremont Library. We especially need volunteers for TUESDAY and FRIDAY which has NO COVERAGE for 6th-7th grade lunch (11:55 am - 12:27 pm) and 8th grade lunch (12:51 - 1:23 pm). We need volunteers who can help students check in and check out books, as well as shelve books and supervise students.

If you are available for a half an hour (or more) please sign up to volunteer on this google doc link with your name, phone number and availability. Even if you are unable to commit to every week, we appreciate any time that you can volunteer. We always need backup volunteers in case appointments or things come up, and a volunteer cannot make it.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (Regular day schedule)
6th/7th grade lunch: 11:55 am- 12:27 pm
8th grade lunch: 12:51 pm- 1:23 pm

Some of you have already met the volunteer requirements: fingerprint scan and TB test. If you have not, please visit https://www.oaklandedfund.org/volunteer/ to see how you can get volunteer clearance or contact Mrs. Anderson to check the status of your clearance.

Any questions, please contact Betty.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR STUDENT AWARD RECIPIENTS

In last week's class assemblies, awards were given out in each grade for Student of the Marking Period and Heart of the Knight. Well done, Knights!

FALL DANCE FRIDAY NOV. 1ST

Our first school dance will be on Friday, Nov. 1st from 1:30 - 3pm in the gym. The cost to get in is Canned or Dry Foods, 4 CMS bucks (students can earn CMS bucks by exhibiting CMS Values - Being compassionate, mindful, and safe.) or $1 cash. Snacks will be provided. Dance expectations:

  • The dance will begin at 1:30pm. All students must be inside, or in line by 1:45pm in order to participate. No entry after 1:45pm.
  • There will be no In/ Out privileges, so once students come in to the dance, they are expected to stay until the dance is over or they are ready to leave.
  • We expect all students to follow the CMS values, or they will be asked to leave.

Parents, how can you help? Mrs. Anderson is looking for someone to do a COSTCO run to pick up Pizzas and juice boxes, and a couple of parents to help with a backpack check-in station, and cleaning up. Please email Edana.Anderson@ousd.org or call 510-654-7337x5007 if you can help, or have any questions. All canned & dry food collected will be donated to families in need.

Halloween Treats - The dance committee would like to give out treat bags at the end of the dance. We are asking for candy & fruit snack donations. Please drop off a bag or two of individually wrapped candy or fruit snacks to the front office by Tuesday, October 29. Our goal is to collect enough treats for all students by next Tuesday.

Treat Bag support - Mrs. Anderson is looking for volunteers to help create the treat bags on Wednesday, October 30. If you are able to help for about an hour, please confirm with Mrs. Anderson.

HALLOWEEN IS NEXT WEEK!

It's great that students want to dress up and show their Halloween spirit. Please encourage your students to be mindful with what they choose to wear at school, the dress code will still be enforced (no underwear should be showing, no slides, crocs, or slippers.) A few reminders: Weapons are not allowed on campus, save the masks and blood for home. Any of these items brought to school will be held in the office until school is out.

DOES YOUR KNIGHT ORDER LUNCH AT SCHOOL?

Ms. Iesha Lee, the Cafeteria Manager, would like for you to call her at 510-985-0431 to check your student's lunch status account. Please call between the hours of 10:30am to 1:30pm. Thank you!

A KNIGHT'S HOLIDAY

Do you need assistance for the holidays with food, and gifts for your children? If so, please email or call Mrs. Anderson by Oct 28th to get registered for "A Knight's Holiday". She is working with several community partners to provide food, gift cards, and Christmas gifts this holiday season. If you would like to make a donation to this, please also let her know.

NEED TO UNLOAD A FREEZER OR A FRIDGE?

Our fabulous TACLE (technology and augmentative communication for learning enhancement) teacher, Santiago Bustamante, is in need of a working refrigerator/freezer. He likes to do cooking projects for his classes and needs adequate storage. We are hoping a CMS family is either doing a kitchen renovation or has the means to purchase such a big ticket item. Please contact Mr. Bustamante if you can help. Thank you!

DID YOUR CLAREMONT STUDENT ATTEND EMERSON, KAISER OR SANKOFA? WE NEED YOU!

Help out on a Claremont school tour for your former elementary school. We are looking for more parent volunteers for these dates:

Emerson - Friday, Nov 1
Kaiser - Weds, Nov 20
Sankofa - Weds, Jan 8

Volunteers are needed from just 8:40-9:30 a.m. Students are the main tour guides, but parents help as back-up and to answer other parent questions. Don't know what to say? Don't worry — we have a script for you.The most important knowledge is just sharing your experience with Claremont.

Sign up here to volunteerQuestions? Contact Laura Mytels (6th grade parent and volunteer tour coordinator).
