When you can speak to people in their own language you deepen connections and understanding. Learn a foreign language as a child and you have a lifetime to benefit from cross-cultural friendships, broader career opportunities, exciting travel adventures and deeper insights into how others see the world.

While English has become the lingua franca of the world, learning a foreign language (or two) increases opportunities for connection and opens to the door to the many benefits of bilingualism.

Tag, You're It!

Tag has different names in different Spanish-speaking countries. In Mexico, it is called la traes, which translates roughly as “you have it.” In Spain, it is called pilla-pilla or tú la llevas. In Argentina, tag is la mancha and in Peru it is called las chapadas¡Vamos a jugar a la traes!

Reading Hack

A new study shows early reading in any language helps children to learn to read English. The study found that children whose native language is Spanish and had early reading skills in Spanish had greater growth in their ability to read English. The findings highlight potential cross-language influence at an early age.

Diwali: Lights of India

Seattle Center Festál presents Diwali: Lights of India on Saturday, October 26, at Seattle Center. The festival features several hands-on activities like henna tattooing, spice mixing and flower mandala making. Vegetarian food items will be available for tasting including a chai booth.
