Last Minute reminder for the Nan Evans Awards nominations are closing this coming Wednesday ready for the Award ceremony at the TCV AGM. Please email your nominations to me asap. 
 
I am away in Australia for a week from next Wednesday for a significant school reunion.  It doesn't seem possible that it is that long since I finished high school.  Many of my classmates have scattered around the world so it will be interesting to catch up with them.

This year's theme is 'changing the tune'. The day is a chance for your service to celebrate the people in your service that play the vital role of managing volunteers.

Make sure you're fully up to date with all of the important legislative changes in the past year with the 2019-20 edition of the Manual. The Labour Government has introduced several important legislative changes since the last edition of the manual - in particular  reversing several employment laws and introducing a new package of family violence legislation. There are also significant legal updates to our chapters about Common crimes, Relationships and break-ups, Neighbourhood life and Disability rights.  The new Gender and Sexuality chapter provides easy to read information about your rights relating to gender, sex and sexuality.   There are also revamped chapters on Dealing with Oranga Tamariki, Starting and leaving a job, Police Powers, Legal Aid, Tenancy and Housing.  This edition also includes important updates to  ACC, Immigration and Refugee chapters in response to the March 15 Terror Attacks in Christchurch.

There are now over 5,500 Dementia Friends in New Zealand and over 17 million Dementia Friends worldwide.
Dementia Friends would like us to spread the word by encouraging friends, family and whānau become Dementia Friends also.  Dementia Friends would like us to get 5 other people to take part - how quickly the community would grow. Find out more here

Stand Children's Services - KidzaCool Adventures
Stand for children has  Adventure programmes running January 20th - 24th providing respite for Grandparents raising their Grandchildren between the ages of 5 and 12 and who have lived with them for over 12 months.  The programme offers a mix of social, sport and art & craft activities designed to suit age and ability of children.  Every child has s staff member "buddy' - someone to look after, encourage and help bring out the best in them.  Click here to find out more.

International Volunteer Day Recognition Awards

International Volunteer Day is coming up 5th December, so it is time to start thinking about those wonderful volunteers who are contributing to our community.

This event is about acknowledging the volunteers at our Awards evening.
There are twelve categories and you may nominate as many volunteers as you like,  but a volunteer can only be nominated for one category.  Nominations close Friday 15th November 2019.

The Awards will be presented at an event at the Waikanae Surf Lifesaving Club Rooms on the 5th December, starting at 6.00 pm.

Rebranding 

ECT is now Trust Tairāwhiti
Did you see the article in The Gisborne Herald last Saturday?
Eastland Community Trust has been “put to sleep” during an official renaming ceremony.
ECT, which owns Eastland Group and also operates Activate Tairawhiti, will now be called Trust Tairāwhiti.
Trust Tairāwhiti invest in the wellbeing of our people, the success of our businesses, and the future of our region.

Speaking at the new brand launch at The Works on Friday night, trust chairman Dr Paul Reynolds remarked the launch marked the end of an era of a "journey of transformation" from the formation of Eastland Energy Community Trust in 1993.  This journey is an opportunity to bring together our community trust and economic development agency to deliver greater wellbeing for Tairāwhiti communities, businesses, tourism and indeed the future of our entire region.”

Rebranding 

Housing New Zealand is now Kāinga Ora 








 
 

On 1 October 2019 Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities will be established, bringing together the people, capabilities and resources of KiwiBuild, Housing New Zealand and its development subsidiary HLC. 
There will be some small operational changes you may wish to share with your team:
  • The Customer Services Centre number 0800 801 601 won’t change on 1 October
  • From 1 October 2019 if you need to write to them, use, Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities, PO Box 2628, Wellington 6140.
  • Email addresses will change to this format: First name.Last name@kaingaora.govt.nz
Invitation to view open homes 
Kāinga Ora have four new two-bedroom homes on Alice street.  They are hosting an Open Home on Wednesday 30th October at 35-37 Alice Street, Outer Kaiti.  You are welcome between 4.00pm and 5.00pm..
