There's lots to do at the library this month...

November brings one of our favorite annual traditions at the library: Hang It All is back! This all-comers community art show features photography, paintings, sculpture, woodworking, and more, by your talented friends and neighbors (and maybe you!). Come check it out during open library hours, and vote for your favorites. We're also looking for artists to apply to display your work at the library in 2020--see below for details.

Speaking of traditions, the holidays are coming, and we have lots of library resources to help you enjoy them, whether you want to make your own gifts, learn a new recipe to share, or create some cocktails for an open house. Coincidentally, this month's reading challenge theme is cookbooks, so it's a great chance to try out something new.

On a more serious note, we have gotten some questions from you about publishers changing ebook and eaudiobook access and how that will affect your library reading. As you may have seen in the news, several major publishers, including Macmillan, have changed how they allow libraries to purchase ebooks for their readers, in some cases limiting the number of copies a library system can purchase or delaying when libraries can buy any copies of a new ebook. You may notice substantially longer wait times for ebooks, especially for new or popular titles.

One of our main goals as a library district is to provide you with a wide range of books and other materials, as quickly as we can. Our statewide ebook and eaudiobook system (Oregon Digital Library Consortium) is working with libraries around the country to negotiate with publishers to improve access. If you're interested, the American Library Association has more information on their website, as well as a petition specifically regarding the Macmillan embargo. Check it out here: https://ebooksforall.org/.

See you at the library!
