Oktoberfest 2019! It was fabulous afternoon of music, fun, food, and fellowship at last Sunday's Oktoberfest Celebration organized by Vanessa. Thanks to Vanessa, Jerry Court and the "Abiding Dudes" cooks, the 8Tracks band, and the dozens of volunteers that made for a wonderful October afternoon!
Church work day. There will be a church work day this Saturday, November 2. We will begin at 2:00 p.m. and work during the afternoon. Activities potentially include staining decks; putting up Christmas lights; and cleaning exteriors, gutters, and carpets. Food and drinks will be provided. Individuals should wear personal protective equipment and clothing as deemed necessary, including gloves, eye protection, and closed-toed shoes. Please sign up online if you plan to come. Thank you for your participation!
Thanksgiving Feast. Our friends at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Irving have invited us again to help with their Community Thanksgiving Feast on Saturday November 23. Serving is 11:00 a.m. to  2:00 p.m. with setup at 10:30 a.m. There are also opportunities to help prep food on Thursday and Friday, November 21–22. Please sign up at the Outreach kiosk. For questions, please contact Nick or Tonya Tomlin.
Fish and Loaves Pantry. Our Good Shepherd friends also have asked for our assistance in stocking their pantry for the upcoming holiday season. To help, pick up a basket and pantry list at the Outreach kiosk beginning this Sunday. Please do not feel obligate to everything on the list—anything you bring will be appreciated more than you know! Return the baskets by Wednesday evening, November 20. We also need a delivery crew for Thursday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. to bring the harvest to the Pantry. Thank you! For questions, please contact Nick or Tonya Tomlin.
Carl Christensen. A Celebration of Life service for beloved founding member Carl Christensen was held this past Monday afternoon. Please keep his four children, Shelly, Nancy, Eric, and Peter, and their families, in your prayers.
Mission Freedom Campaign. Please view this short video for background on our Mission Freedom Campaign. This Sunday is the last day to pick up your Mission Freedom Campaign packet. Thank you to all members who picked their packet up last Sunday. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming Mission Rallies on November 7, 9, and 10.
Eighth grade lock-in. An intensive Confirmation lock-in, including vocabulary and the spiritual gift inventory, will be held beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8.
Cooking oil for GRACE. We didn't quite make our goal of 200 bottles of cooking oil in the month of October. As of last Sunday, we have received 170 bottles. So we are extending the drive for one more week. If at all possible, please bring at least one 48 oz. bottle of cooking oil next Sunday. Thanks in advance for all that you do! This is an awesome church!
Daylight Saving Time ends early this Sunday morning. Be sure to set your clocks back an hour and enjoy the extra sleep or you'll be early to church.
The annual BRAVE Special Olympics Banquet at Abiding Grace is Sunday, November 10. Volunteers are needed to serve the athletes and their families (if you’re unable to volunteer consider providing a cake for dessert). Helpers are asked to arrive at 4:30 p.m. dressed in your finest Hawaiian shirts, skirts, or muumuus. Volunteers will decorate, prep the food line, and share a meal of Jerry Court’s famous brisket prior to guests 6:00 arrival.

The BRAVE provides continued sports activity at a local, state, and national level for young adult athletes. More importantly, it offers community. Together they learn, they laugh, they disagree, and they support each other. Recent activities include golf, bocce ball, and bowling (please consider sharing your skills by volunteering to assist or coach).

Please sign up at the Outreach kiosk to help with the banquet. For more information, contact Kim Haggerty.
PurpleStride DFW. Team Piper is participating in PurpleStride DFW on Saturday, November 9, to support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This organization is making significant strides to change the course of pancreatic cancer and patient outcomes. Watching Curtis battle this horrible disease was heart wrenching. Please consider donating online to the team or joining us at the walk.
Keep in prayer. Please keep the following people in your prayers: Sandy, Jeff, Arty, Dawn, Sarah, Tracy, Mona, Mimi, Shirley, Kaye, Davey, Mike, Arthur, Elenor, Charles, Jim, Elaine, David, Susan, Linda, Rich, Corbin, Chris, Tommy, Lindsey, Zach, Betty, Chris and Kim, Ken, Amy, LaRue, Dusty, Debbie, Charles, Blake family, Christensen family, Jenni, Roger, Finn, Micah, Lorraine, Nolan, and Joan.
