Prayer
Merciful Father,
On All Souls Day, we are called to remember those who have died,
Particularly those who have died in the past year,
And pray for their joyful reunion with you, their loving creator.
As your son taught us to call the stranger
neighbour, our fallen are many -
Names we will never know, Voices we have never heard,
In lands we may never visit, Yet brothers and sisters all.
And so we pray.
For victims of war, caught in the crossfires of
conflicts we could not quell, for soldiers and civilians,
adults and children, we pray.
Grant eternal rest, O Lord.
For those migrants who have died seeking a
haven where they hoped to find safety
and opportunity for themselves and for their families, we pray.
Grant eternal rest, O Lord.
Lord, as you command, we reach out to the fallen.
We call on you on behalf of those we could not reach this year.
You raised your son from the dead
that all may share in his joyful resurrection.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
Catherine and Marcellin... pray for us.

Principal's Report

NOTICE OF MEETING: COMMUNITY MEETING – MONDAY 25 NOVEMBER
The Annual General Meeting of the College Board and P&F, the Community Meeting, will be held at 7.00pm on Monday 25 November in the Marist Sports Pavilion.
This is a wonderful chance for the school community to find out what these parent groups have been doing in the school throughout the year.
With the separation to two schools imminent, this meeting will be a combined gathering for both the Marist and Mercy communities and an opportunity to hear from the Chair of the BCC Board, the Chair of the foundation Board of OLMC and the Presidents of each P&F association.
Please put this date in your diary and consider attending and supporting the parents who are so actively involved in the life of the College.
Refreshments will be served after the short meeting.

BOARD NOMINATIONS
Each year the Board calls for interested parents to nominate for our College Board.
Parents seeking more information or wishing to nominate are asked to contact our Board Chair, Mr Danny Griffin, or the Principal, Ms Denise O’Meara, on 9721 0000 or email admin@bccwa.wa.edu.au.
Nominations close on Friday 1 November and the elections will be held at the Community Meeting on Monday 25 November. [Nomination date extended to Monday 4 November.]

P&F NOMINATIONS
In line with the P&F constitution, the P&F Executive is elected annually.
Parents who may wish to play an active role in the P&F for OLMC or BCC are encouraged to contact the College to nominate for a position on the Executive [President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary] or to be a Year Group representative. [Nominations extended to Monday 4 November.]
The P&F conducts important work in the College and I call on all parents to consider how they may be able to support their child by taking an active interest in the P&F.
In keeping with the past, the AGM and elections for the OLMC P&F will be held at the first P&F meeting in February 2020.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS
Thank you to our parents who attended the Mercy and Marist campus P&F meetings in the last two weeks. These have been a great opportunity for parents to ask questions and contribute their ideas.

 ART EXTRAORDINAIRE – BCC FUNDRAISER
The exhibition of the Art Extraordinaire was a wonderful success with great support from the wider community and with sales figures greater than the previous event.
This achievement is the product of the hard work of the organising committee and the many parents, students and staff who volunteered to assist before, during and after the event. Special thanks to Ms Jennifer Hill who coordinated the work of the committee, our guest artists Troy and Tahlia Bennell, our MC, Mr Brendan Kelly, the entertaining auctioneer, Mr Jamie Abbs, the artists for their contributions, especially those who made a donation of their work for sale, and our students who provided a musical presence for the event over the weekend.
The final profit for the event is yet to be determined and will be announced in a future newsletter.

The success of this event is directly attributed to the parents who volunteered to be on the 2019 Art Extraordinaire committee. I am very grateful to these coordinators for giving of their time and their efforts to ensure we resurrected this great community building event.
Planning for the 2020 Art Extraordinaire will commence late in Term 1 in 2020 and I call on all of our parents to consider assisting. Many of the current committee members have offered to remain on the committee and we would like each coordinator to have an assistant coordinator to share the work and the knowledge of the planning.
Parents who may wish to be part of this dynamic group in 2020 are asked to contact the College on 9721 0000 or email admin@bccwa.wa.edu.au.
WACE EXAMINATIONS
Our Year 12 students commenced their written papers on Wednesday this week. Please keep them in your prayers as they undertake their final assessments for their secondary education.

YEAR 10 OUTWARD ADVENTURE
Our Year 10 students have almost completed their time on Outward Adventure. This experience is intended to provide physical challenges, to build team work, leadership and resilience, and the weather has certainly provided that extra dimension to test our students.
STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND STUDENT HOME STUDY DAY – Tuesday 5 November
Next Tuesday will be a home study day for students as our staff complete another professional learning day. This date is selected to provide our Year 10 students a day to recover from their bush experience and for all students a time to revise for their coming final assessments.

CONGRATULATIONS
In addition to completing learning programs, many of our students have participated in a wide range of co-curricular activities. Congratulations to all students who have had success in the Philosothon and sporting competitions. These events have been posted on Facebook and in this newsletter.

God bless

Art Extraordinaire
The 38th edition of Art Extraordinaire was a great success and featured record art sales.
A good crowd attended our gala opening night on Friday 18 October and numbers were also healthy throughout the weekend.
To coincide with the event, another wall at the Marist campus was turned into a mural thanks to donations from the P&F and Ex-Students Association.
Andrew Frazer, who has painted two other murals at the College, was commissioned for the mural after a vote by the Art Extraordinaire committee.
His creation, which was based around Art Extraordinaire's theme of 'Renewal', is pictured below and can be seen on the wall between the gym and Learning Commons.

Congratulations also to Year 8 student Perrie Goater and Year 9 student Amber Palermo, who were judged joint winners of the student photography competition.
This was a new initiative for 2019 and was designed to encourage students to become more involved in Art Extraordinaire, with visitors able to vote for their favourite 'Renewal' themed student photos.
Orientation Day for Year 7, 2020 students
The Orientation Day for students accepted to attend Bunbury Catholic College and Our Lady of Mercy College will be held on Thursday 28 November 2019.
Further information regarding the Orientation Day, uniform appointments and booklists will be emailed to parents in Term 4, 2019.
Additional details are available on the College website.

College Activities

Year 9 Retreat
During the first week of Term 4, Year 9 students from both campuses attended two days of Retreat.
The focus for the Retreat was on physical changes during puberty, respectful relationships and Catholic Teachings on Sexuality.
One day was spent on campus with students divided up into smaller groups for activities presented by College staff (Mercy Campus) and Loving for Life facilitators (Marist Campus), and the second day was spent off site and facilitated by the Youth Mission Team.
For Mercy students, the boys went to the Leschenault Leisure Centre and girls to the Leschenault Pavilion.
Marist boys went to the Bunbury Rowing Club, while girls were at the Koombana Bay Sailing Club.
Students enjoyed a range of large group and small group activities and shared lunch.
Thank you to all staff who were involved in supervising students and presenting during the opening day.

Philosothon phenomenon
Congratulations to our Philosothon team, who won the competition for the second straight year.
Our team of Jack Cross (Year 10), Ethan and Jack Nankivell and Michael Yates (all Year 9) and Tiernan Watts (Year 8) competed in Busselton last Wednesday night and defeated three other schools.
Jack and Tiernan also won awards for finishing in first place for their respective year groups.
Grandparents afternoon tea
On Friday, a number of Year 9 Mercy students invited their grandparents and other significant extended family members to afternoon tea.
Students and grandparents enjoyed scones, sausage rolls, sandwiches and fruit kebabs, along with the customary cups of tea and coffee.
All attendees were entertained by talented musicians Josh Jacob and Ethan Nankivell.
Some of the Year 9 Dance students also performed a liturgical dance.
The afternoon included a small liturgy and blessing of grandparents.
Thank you to Tania Evans for catering for the event and to the front office staff for their assistance on the day.
Many grandparents expressed their gratitude in being able to spend time with their grandchildren and some enjoyed a tour around the school.

Leaders Formation Day
The Marist campus 2020 Council of Student Leaders started their leadership journey with a Formation Day at the end of last term.
The 14 leaders spent a day together with mentors Mr Anthony Blee and Mrs Joanne Ball ahead of commencing their roles next year.
The leadership positions for each council member will be announced at a College assembly on November 20.

Super Series success
Our Year 7 students have done the College proud with their performances at the ACC Super Series, held in Perth last week.
For most of the students, this was their first chance to represent the College and we won both the boys hockey and girls soccer competitions.
Our girls basketball team were unlucky to lose the grand final by four points while the girls soccer team defeated Irene McCormack Catholic College 2-1 in their grand final, both of which were played this Tuesday.
The boys hockey competition was all played last week and we won the grand final 7-6.
All our teams played to a high standard, which is a positive sign for future College representative teams.
We also thank former College student and current Perth Lynx basketballer, Tayah Burrows, for visiting the girls basketball team last week.
Karting competition
Good luck to Year 9 Marist campus student Judd Stevens, who will be competing in the Dash for Cash go-kart competition in Kalgoorlie this weekend.
Judd has had a good year in the kart, winning the state title earlier in the 'Ka4 Junior Heavy' category during an event held in Esperance.
