Capital Region Enters Phase 1 Reopening of 'New York Forward' Plan

This week, Governor Cuomo announced the Capital Region (consisting of 8 counties, including Rensselaer) can reopen under the New York Forward plan. The City is committed to reopening in a safe, responsible manner while protecting vulnerable members of our community.

The following industries could resume operations on Wednesday, May 20th:
  • Construction
  • Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting
  • Retail - (Limited to curbside or in-store pickup or drop off)
  • Manufacturing
  • Wholesale Trade
City Hall and other public facilities remain closed under NY-PAUSE restrictions due to COVID-19. For more information on Phase 1 reopening, visit http://forward.ny.gov
Mayor Madden reminds Troy residents to wear a face mask and maintain 6 feet distance when in public. Your cooperation will help protect public health, prevent overwhelming local hospitals, and support our local frontline healthcare workers.
Shop Local
Many of our local shops, restaurants, and retailers have been directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. You can support them by shopping local. Visit www.troyny.gov/shoplocal to find listings for local businesses, especially those returning to limited operation under Phase 1.

Residential Leaf Bag Collection
Leaf bag/yard waste collection will resume on a modified schedule beginning next Tuesday, May 26th. Leaf bags can be placed outside with garbage and recycling on the last full week of each month for collection during residents’ regular weekly collection day.

Yard waste/leaf bags can also be dropped off at the Department of Public Works Garage — located at 3118 7th Avenue — every Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. There is a drop-off limit of 10 bags per person.

PLEASE NOTE: garbage, recycling, and leaf bag collection (and drop-off) will not occur on Monday, May 25th, due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Street Sweeping

The regular street sweeping schedule has resumed. Motorists are reminded to observe alternate side parking restrictions near their home or business. Vehicles parked illegally will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

Frear Park Golf Course Reopens

The historic golf course is operating under limited hours, with golfers required to adhere to social distancing requirements. The Frear Park Pro Shop remains closed to the public; tee time reservations will be taken by phone only at (518) 270-4553.
Pro Shop Manager Josh Buell issues an operations update for the Frear Park Golf Course, including the return of golf carts, and changes for tournaments and league play for the 2020 season in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bike Path Upgrades
Last month, a new storm water line was installed beneath the Uncle Sam Bike Trail to help reduce sewer overflows to Hudson River. The project also repaved over a half-mile of the trail between Northern Drive to Cemetery Road to improve biking and walking on the historic rail trail.
