Earth Care’s October Small Step Challenge:

Image result for PLANT A TREE
Plant a Tree

Trees are a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. Trees "breathe in" carbon dioxide and "exhale" oxygen. A mature tree consumes approximately 48 pounds of carbon dioxide a year (and other greenhouse gases such as ozone), and release enough oxygen for you to breathe for 2 years!

So plant a tree this fall, and enjoy the beauty of the foliage, as well as helping our Planet Earth. Visit onetreeplanted.org for more info!

The Session and the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia have approved our search for a Covenant Pastor for Congregational Care.

This will be an ordained part-time position with the major responsibilities in pastoral calling such as hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and retirement communities.  This person will also be working with the Deacons and the New Member Ministry.  One additional responsibility will be to oversee the Christian Service Survey information on the church’s new database. We hope that this will help us engage more of our members in ministry.

If you know of someone who is interested in this position, please have them contact Rev. John Morgan.  Members of the search committee are: John Morgan, Jaynelle Oehler, Gary Davis and Rob Brown.

Be a Good Neighbor
Blessing Bags available for pickup in the
Church Welcome Center.

How many times have you been faced with being out and about and someone asks you for money for food and you are not quite sure what to do?

Stop by the Welcome Center and pick up a Blessing Bag for your car. Blessing Bags contain non-perishable food that can be given to those you meet in the community who are asking for a little help.

You can still sign-up for the Roundtable Pulpit Group!
The next session will be Sunday, November 3, and ends on Sunday, November 17

There are still a few seats left in the group for this session of the Roundtable Pulpit group with Pastor John Morgan, which began last Sunday, October 20 and ends Sunday, November 17. The NEXT session will be held on Sunday, November 3 in the Church Library at 7:00pm. The Roundtable Pulpit is a group of lay persons that meets weekly. This is a 5-week session that meets on Sunday evenings, 7:00-8:30pm, in the Church Library to discuss the biblical text for upcoming sermons.

You do not need particular qualifications or be a biblical scholar to be a part of the group. The group will be limited to 15 members. This is a chance to learn about sermon formation and how sermons function in the community. You will assist in widening the preacher’s perspective, promoting collaboration and a public forum of theology in the pulpit.

Based on the weekly conversation, a sermon will be written and preached by Pastor. Morgan the next Sunday. It is believed that from the Roundtable discussion, a richer, more meaningful and relevant witness to the power and presence of God in our lives and in our world will be possible.  Sermons are posted on the WPC website (www.mywpc.org) or in print (in the church office) after they have been preached and comments or reactions to them are always welcome.

To register, please contact Pastor Morgan (jmorgan@mywpc.org; 757-229-4235). You will be contacted to confirm your spot in the Roundtable Pulpit Group.

3RD ANNUAL PYF TRUNK OR TREAT
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27, 4:30PM - 6:00PM
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27

Who’s ready for a fun-filled spooktacular of trick-or-treating in a safe, family-friendly environment? This is a free event for all, and all are welcome!

In addition to the trunk or treat, there will be games, a cupcake walk, pumpkin painting, and face painting, all in the back parking lot this year!  WPC members and community members are invited to decorate a trunk and pass out goodies to our youngest congregation and community members!  Kids will trick or treat safely from trunk to trunk in the big parking lots behind the church.

Sign up to host a trunk as a family, as a Sunday School class, Church ministry, or any other group. PYF is also looking for volunteers to donate either home-baked cupcakes, or store-bought cupcakes.  Nut-free options are encouraged, but not required!

To register a trunk, or to sign up to donate cupcakes, look for the sign-up sheet in the Welcome Center, or contact Jill Walton (thejillelizabeth@gmail.com) or Jodie Davis (garyandjodie@cox.net).

The WPC-Book Club will meet on October 28 in WPC Library at 2:00pm to discuss Peace Like a River by Leif Enger.

Cynthia McCraw will be our discussion leader. Questions: dettjo2x39@gmail.com.
