New Orleans MCH Coalition to Present at City Council Mtg. on Nov. 7

Dear Readers,

We are sending this special edition of ReproNews to announce that the New Orleans Maternal and Child Health Coalition will give a presentation to the New Orleans City Council about maternal mortality in New Orleans on November 7 at 10:30am.

Representatives from the coalition will propose ways that the city can help solve maternal mortality, particularly among Black mothers. These solutions include home visits for postpartum moms, training and hiring more Black community health workers, and supporting state efforts to develop ethical ways to reimburse doulas for their labor.

Please come out to support the coalition on November 7. It would be so powerful to pack City Hall full of community members who endorse this effort. The coalition asks that you wear black to express your support. You can also wear a Black Birth Matters T-Shirt or a Listen to Black Mothers T-Shirt, if you have one or would like to purchase one. By purchasing one of these shirts, you will also be supporting local organizations who are already doing work to support Black families in our city.

If you are a Tulane student who is interested in attending, please complete this form so that we can help you get a t-shirt and transportation!

Sincerely,

Clare Daniel, PhD, Newcomb Institute, Tulane University
Hali Ledet, School of Public Health, Newcomb Institute Community Engagement Graduate Assistant
Marianne Yu, School of Science and Engineering, Tulane University, Class of 2021
