Cornell University is hosting the fourth annual Diversity and Inclusion Preview Weekend from March 12-15, 2020 for prospective graduate students interested in the following research areas: ecology, entomology, evolutionary biology, and plant science. Through this event, graduate students in these areas of study are seeking to increase diversity in scientific communities. Students admitted to the Master of Science in Coastal Science and Policy and participating in the PhD Designated Emphasis Program come from diverse backgrounds and have interests that range across the coastal zone (from land to the sea). The Coastal Science and Policy Program is interested in students with demonstrated experiences in and a passion for sustainability sciences, economics, and policy. Most will have completed a bachelor’s degree at a four-year university in a field relevant to coastal sustainability. Relevant fields are diverse and include biology, conservation science, earth sciences, chemistry, oceanography, environmental studies, social sciences, economics, human ecology, political science, sociology, engineering, and interdisciplinary programs. Naval Research Enterprise - Internships

The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) provides an opportunity for college students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer. This internship opportunity will encourage participating college students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts. Delta Science Fellowship
Application Deadline: Dec 20, 2019
The Delta Science Fellows Program (previously known as the CALFED Science Fellows Program) was established to bring together graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with Bay-Delta agency scientists and senior research mentors. Fellows work on collaborative data analysis and research projects applicable to the California Bay-Delta system. The goal of funding this research is to invest in knowledge that will fundamentally advance the understanding of the complex environments and systems within the Bay-Delta system to aid policy-makers and managers, and to train the next generation of research scientists for water issues in California. California Sea Grant administers and manages the fellowship program on behalf of the Delta Stewardship Council - Delta Science Program. More info here.

Alaska Sea Grant State Fellowship Program

A unique professional opportunity for soon-to-graduate or recently finished graduate students interested in the science and policy needed to keep our marine resources healthy. Modeled after the highly successful Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship, the state fellowship program provides an opportunity to acquire on-the-job experience in the planning and implementation of marine resource policies and programs in Alaska. The program matches highly motivated graduate students and recent graduates with hosts in Alaska-based state or federal agencies for a 12-month paid fellowship. More info here.

Ocean Exploration Trust - Science Communication Fellowship

The Science Communication Fellowship invites formal and informal educators to participate in the Nautilus Exploration Program as expedition communicators for ocean exploration sharing the excitement of exploration and research with students and public audiences in their communities and around the world. Fellows gain exposure to and experience in the applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics within the field of ocean exploration and serve a key role within an authentic scientific exploration mission. The University of California, San Diego in collaboration with the Marine Physical Laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) seeks inquisitive motivated undergraduates with exceptional aptitude for quantitative science. This ten-week summer internship program offers qualified students the opportunity to work with notable scientists as well as attend weekly seminars given by faculty and staff members. Ocean Exploration Trust - Internships

The Ocean Exploration Trust centers on scientific exploration of the seafloor from aboard the Exploration Vessel (E/V) Nautilus, a 64-meter research vessel. In addition to conducting scientific research, the Ocean Exploration Trust provides educators and students experiences in ocean exploration and science communication. Internships through the Ocean Exploration Trust aims to train individuals with scientific backgrounds in research while at-sea. Science interns spend their time onboard working with a wide array of scientists, learning how to make scientific observations, logging data in Nautilus systems, and summarizing scientific dives. NOAA Center for Coastal & Marine Ecosystems - Graduate Fellowship

Interested in pursuing a graduate degree on the central coast? The NOAA Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Graduate Fellowship provides funding for two years of graduate study. Center research emphases include Coastal Resilience, Coastal Intelligence and Place-Based Conservation. John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship

The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience to graduate students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. The Fellowship, named after one of Sea Grant's founders and former NOAA Administrator John A. Knauss, matches highly qualified graduate students with "hosts" in the legislative and executive branch of government located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one year paid fellowship. Washington Sea Grant Hershman Fellowship

The Washington Sea Grant Hershman Fellowship offers a unique educational opportunity for soon-to-graduate or recently finished graduate students engaged in studies pertaining to ocean and coastal policy issues. This one-year, paid marine policy fellowship matches highly motivated, qualified individuals with host agencies, nonprofits or tribes throughout Washington State. The Washington Sea Grant Hershman Fellowship offers students first-hand experiences in crafting marine and natural resource policies and allows them to share their academic expertise with their host offices.
