“Undercurrent”
All senses are captured by the calming waters and pastoral land/seascapes around Goolwa and the mouth of the Murray.
Closer observation reveals the tension between humans and this unique ecology. The topic of dwindling water supply and fragile habitat of the Murray mouth and mans’ interventions to protect the ecosystem is a constant undercurrent.
The evidence of nature’s response to man’s intrusion can be seen in the lichen growing on the concrete, the bird droppings on the barrages, weathered pylons degraded by the water and rust encroaching on unprotected metal.
These visual struggles between man and nature are remarkably beautiful and provide the artist with rich texture, colour and pattern to weave into art works.
