MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello neighbours,

I am very proud of the work the Secord Community League has done and have planned for the upcoming months. I invite you to read this newsletter to learn more.

And, if you live in Secord, please support the Secord Community League by purchasing a membership for a minimal cost of $20 for the whole family. This gives you access to all our events for free, reduced costs for programs, eligibility to participate to our contests, many benefits including free swimming, and many more.  Last year, we sold about 220 memberships (about 12% of Secord).

Did you miss the September 2019 quarterly newsletter? You can download it here!

JOIN OUR TEAM / VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES !
The Secord Community League is run by a group of 11 dedicated volunteers that reside in Secord. Unfortunately, other than our Board of Directors and a handful of people, we have a very low volunteer base. This has a direct influence on the amount of events, programs, and services that we can provide.

We are looking for motivated people to help us continue to make the Secord community a better place. Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering for future event, programs, or be part of a committee. Volunteering is a rewarding experience. Please contact us and see how you can help.

SPONSORS
We are also always looking for sponsors for our events, programs and newsletters. Wouldn't if be great if we could offer Programs to the Community for free! Or if we could offer bigger and better events with more free activities and more free food? Contact us if you are interested in sponsoring the SCL (and getting some local publicity).

If you are a company and you are interested in donating prizes, or be a corporate sponsor for our community events, programs or one of our key infrastructure projects, please contact Christie Delano at: christie.delano@gmail.com and/or Derek Richardson at fundraising@secordcommunityleague.com

Happy Halloween !

DTK PLAYGROUND UPDATES

Things are really moving along! Installation is complete, inspections done, now the surfacing and final touches! We look forward to next week when the city will remove the fences! The playground should open sometime next week!!!! Bike track is still under construction, no precise timeline on it yet.

OUTDOOR ICE RINK

Our community ice rink is starting to take shape! Thank you Rob Smashnuk (our Rink Committee Coordinator), Bryan Kondo and Nathan Beeler for taking the lead on this very important project! If you are interested in joining our ice rink committee please reach out to us! We need help with setup, maintenance, shovelling, removal, etc. Contributions big and small are appreciated. This rink, as well as all of our community initiatives, are completely volunteer driven.

This year, we had to purchase a new liner for the rink, at a cost exceeding $1,000. This is because the liner was severally damaged last year due to one or multiple individuals using the ice surface when it was not yet ready in the Fall, or when it was melting in the Spring. Ice skates are very sharp and can easily damage the liner. Please respect the signage at the rink, and do not use the rink when there are signs indicating it is closed.
