This week we hosted a Recovery Conversation Workshop with Dundee Criminal Justice Services staff, using the Making Recovery Real in Dundee film to raise awareness, get conversations going and bring about change in the way we think about mental health, wellbeing and recovery.

The Dundee Macmillan Improving the Cancer Journey is here to help anyone affected by cancer, including carers and loved ones of someone with cancer. To date, we've helped over 400 people and worked with them to resolve over 5000 of their concerns.
We are a free, appointment based service, which offers practical, personal and emotional support to people affected by cancer. We can meet individuals in their local community or at home – wherever they feel most comfortable. We will chat about how they’re feeling, what they’re concerned about and the help they need.
As well as a listening ear, we can offer a wide range of support, tailored to individual needs. This could be about money worries, getting around, how to manage tiredness and help at home.
We can also put people in touch with other specialist services, who can help them come to terms with their diagnosis and connect them with others affected by cancer.
We take self-referrals along with referrals from all statutory and voluntary sector organisations across the city. All you need to do is contact us in one of the following ways:

We would like to invite you to attend the Carer Interest Network on Wednesday 13th November 2019, 9.15am – 11.30am at C-Gate, Dundee Carers Centre.
The Carer Interest Network is a means of working together more effectively and proactively in meeting the needs of carers. The network is open to all organisations providing generic and targeted support to unpaid carers across Dundee. The network welcomes guest speakers from different organisations at each meeting.
We are currently welcoming invitations from organisations to share information about work they are currently doing to support carers in Dundee. If you are interested in this opportunity, please email megan.clark@dundeecarerscentre.org.uk with your request. Please note we have allocated one 15-minute slot for interested organisations.

The Annual General Meeting of Dundee Citizens Advice Bureau will take place on Wednesday, 13th November at 11am in Committee Room 3, City Square, Dundee and will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity for an informal chat with our staff, volunteers and trustees.

The Knowledge Exchange Network is hosting a workshop “How to communicate effectively” which will be held on 15th November, 10am – 1pm at Luna Place.
Communication is a skill we all use but are you using it effectively?
The workshop can help you increase your skills.
In this workshop, we will learn:

- What makes good communication.
- How to adapt your communication to your audience for maximum success.
- How you can best prepare and overcome your nervousness or fear of speaking.
- How you can be the best presenter possible.

Foundation Scotland – GVC Fund open for applicants
The GVC Fund is now open for applications. The aim of the fund is to support local communities and projects with a focus on sports and healthy activities in addition to their being a preference for men’s health projects. Grants of up to £5,000 will be available. Application deadline is Monday the 28th of October 2019, at 12 noon.
Corra Foundation - Challenge Fund
Corra Foundation is pleased to announce that the second round of The Scottish Government Challenge Fund will open to applications later this year. This Challenge Fund’s principal aim is to help break down barriers for people accessing services for support with their alcohol and/or drug use and to make sure they can receive the right support at the right time. It is intended to provide space to re-think the system (or parts of the system), test change and implement new ways of working.
We will hold an all-day event in Glasgow on Monday 21st October to support organisations who may be interested in applying to the second round of the Challenge Fund. We hope you will be able to join us.

| Bank of Scotland Foundation, an independent charity supporting people and their local communities across Scotland, has started to expand its funding programmes. ‘Supporting Positive Change Across Scotland’ is the Foundation’s five-year strategic plan which will see a range of new funding programmes open in 2019 and 2020 as the Foundation rethinks its approach. |

Transforming Tayside are encouraging people to give their feedback on the proposals to redesign orthopaedic services before the three-month consultation closes on 31 October.
Pop up events are being held across Tayside in the final weeks of NHS Tayside’s three-month consultation on proposals to redesign orthopaedic services in Tayside.
As part of its wider Transforming Tayside plans, NHS Tayside is proposing to make changes to where surgeons, doctors and nurses deliver orthopaedic surgery in the region, including planned operations and unplanned trauma operations.
Community pop-up information stands for Shaping Orthopaedic Services where people can find out more and give their feedback are being held on the following dates:
- Thursday, 24 October from 10am until 4pm in the Overgate Shopping Centre, Dundee
- Friday, 25 October from 10am until 4pm in Asda Superstore, 85 Dunkeld Road, Perth

Dundee Violence Against Women Partnership is carrying out a survey to aid shaping of services that will help to keep people safe.
The short poll, which takes around five minutes to complete, is completely anonymous and lays out a number of scenarios before asking for respondents to choose which view most closely corresponds with their own.
The survey runs until Thursday 7th November and we would appreciate you completing the survey and sharing as widely as possible across your networks.
