Triplets of Belleville at Cinemapolis Tues, Nov. 12 at 7pm!
Following up on October's well-attended film Bikes of Wrath, including a wonderful Q&A with the director, comes our November feature, Triplets of Belleville. The film, nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song and winner of other awards and accolades, was wildly received as a masterful, groundbreaking film. According to Rotten Tomatoes, "Richly detailed and loaded with surreal touches, The Triplets of Belleville is an odd, delightful charmer." This is the second in our bike film series in partnership with Cinemapolis. Be sure to watch the trailer to get ready for the screening!

"Triplets of Belleville" playing at Cinemapolis, Nov. 12, 7pm.
Walk, Bike Deaths Up Nationally
A disturbing trend has emerged across the country: According to TheVerge.com, cyclist and pedestrian deaths around the country are skyrocketing, with pedestrian deaths in 2018 reaching their highest point in almost 30 years. New York City has come up with a bold plan to address the increase in cyclist deaths in the city, by adjusting traffic light timing to better accommodate cyclists and to slow motor vehicles. Bike Walk Tompkins is working to address the problem locally through our Blueprint for Better Bicycling and supporting Ithaca's Vision Zero effort. Please donate to support this critical work, and thank you!

Pedestrian Bridge between Titus Towers and Ithaca ReUse in jeopardy
Bike Walk Tompkins has been closely following and contributing to a community conversation around the removal of the pedestrian bridge that goes over a ditch between Titus Towers, owned by the Ithaca Housing Authority (IHA), and Ithaca ReUse on Elmira Rd. The bridge is regularly used by Titus Towers residents and neighbors to access ReUse and adjacent shops along Elmira Rd. IHA plans to remove the bridge to do some ditch dredging, with its future status uncertain. Bike Walk Tompkins is strongly in support of the bridge remaining in place to support accessibility for area residents, and will keep working on this issue and keep you updated. Feel free to contact us with any questions, or contact IHA directly.
Our very own Ithaca Bike Champion Natalya hosted a super fun, family-friendly bike ride last Thursday from the Farmer's Market to Gaia at the Ithaca Children's Garden! With tunes by DJ Proper PHILTH as our 40-50 attendees installed free bike lights, it was a great time for everyone!
We've partnered with Bike Index, a free nationwide non-profit online bike registry. Register online, or stop by our offices or a community event to get a sticker!
