The Canadian Sociological Association annually presents awards of recognition for scholarly work and contributions to the field of Canadian Sociology.
Presentations will be made at our Annual Banquet and Award Ceremony to be held at Western University in 2020. Awards offered by the association are listed below and we encourage you to nominate yourself or a colleague!
Angus Reid Practitioner / Applied Sociology
Recognizing sociologists who undertake community action projects that bring social science knowledge, methods, and expertise to bear in addressing community-identified issues and concerns.

Best Student Paper
Students presenting at the annual CSA Conference may submit their paper for consideration.
Deadline: April 13, 2020
Early Investigator Award
Sociologists in the early stages of their careers are recognized for research demonstrating high quality, theoretical rigour or methodological innovation, and future potential. Furthermore, the research has made a significant contribution to the applicant’s field.

John Porter Tradition of Excellence
Books dedicated to the advancement of sociological knowledge in and about Canada may be nominated by the publisher, author, or colleagues.
Deadline: January 15, 2020
Outstanding Contribution
Scholars in an advanced stage in their career are recongized for contributions which extend beyond the specialization(s) in which the candidate has primarily worked and their scope should be widely recognized within the Canadian sociological community.
Deadline: January 31, 2020
Outstanding Graduating Students
Sociology related departments may select one top student in each academic level (Honours, MA, or PhD). The selection process is up to the department, however it is hoped that the strength of the student’s research is a priority in the decision.

Canadian Review of Sociology: Best Article
The award is presented to the author(s) of an article published in the journal that, in the opinion of the selection committee, makes an outstanding contribution to the advancement of sociological knowledge.
Outstanding Service
An internal service award in recognition of those who have made exceptional service contributions to the Association.

La Société canadienne de sociologie décerne annuellement ses prix de reconnaissance pour des études savantes et pour la contribution à la sociologie canadienne.
La présentation des récipiendaires des différents prix se fera lors du banquet annuel qui se tiendra à l’Université Western en 2020. Les prix offerts par la Société sont énumérés ci-dessous. Vous pouvez vous inscrire pour l’obtention d’un prix ou soumettre la nomination d’un collègue.
Prix des praticiens Angus Reid/de sociologie appliquée
Ce prix est décerné pour reconnaître le travail d’un sociologue qui entreprend des projets d’action communautaire s’appuyant sur les connaissances, sur les méthodes et sur l’expertise en sciences sociales pour traiter les enjeux et les préoccupations identifiés par la communauté.

Meilleure article étudiante
Les étudiants qui présentent leurs travaux lors du conference annuel peuvent soumettre leur candidature en envoyant leur texte.

Prix du jeune chercheur
Ce prix reconnait les travaux de recherche prometteurs et de grande qualité, faisant état de rigueur théorique ou d’innovation méthodologique. Les recherches devraient en outre apporter une contribution significative au domaine d’étude de la candidate ou du candidat.

Prix du livre John Porter
Les auteurs, éditeurs et collègues peuvent soumettre la candidature d’un livre qui contribue à l’avancement du savoir sociologique canadien.

Contribution remarquable
Ce prix honore les collègues qui ont contribué de façon significative à la sociologie canadienne, au-delà des domaines de spécialisation dans lesquels le candidat ou la candidate a œuvré.

Prix d’excellence des étudiants diplômés en sociologie
Les départements peuvent choisir le meilleur étudiant à chaque niveau d’études. Le processus de sélection est à l’entière discrétion du département, mais il est souhaité que la valeur de la recherche menée par l’étudiant soit un critère prioritaire dans la sélection du récipiendaire.
