Making Headlines: Transition to Winter Athletics and Equipment

Dear Middlesex families,

As we look ahead to Parents’ Weekend and the rapidly approaching winter season, we advise that families make sure that their kids have all of the required equipment on campus for the start of the winter season tryout period.

For Varsity candidates, that date will be in the middle of the week after the fall St. George’s Day (roughly 11/13) and ALL levels will begin open tryouts for winter teams on Monday, 11/18/2019.  The calendar usually offers the Thanksgiving Break for the sub-varsity winter athletes to gather their equipment, but this year’s calendar is pushed back one week earlier, so please be sure that your child is prepared for the transition.

Thank you for your consideration!

Ken Risley, Athletic Director

  • Middlesex is excited to be hosting Mass Heartbeat on Friday, November 8th from 9am-1pm. MHB will be providing onsite ECG Screenings for any student who wants to participate. It will only cost $35 and participation is strongly recommended.

WHAT IS MASS HEARTBEAT? MHB performs ECG screenings directly to students at their school. The screenings are then read by experienced cardiologists and results are returned to the students and their parents within 5 business days.

    WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE?

A simple heart screening can help detect problems before they become major medical issues or even worse, before they become fatal. Statistics show that sudden cardiac death is the leading cause of death during exercise.

Hope to see everyone there! Register here: https://www.familyid.com/mass-heartbeat/middlesex-school

  • From the Director of Multicultural & Community Development, Pascale Musto: The period between Halloween and winter break is always busy for community service projects at Middlesex School.  Besides the regular programs, there will a few additional service opportunities running during these weeks:  Toys-for-Tots, holiday card writing to an active duty marine unit led by an MX Alumnus and Heading Home.  Please consider returning to campus with an unwrapped toy or mailing one to Middlesex School c/o community service prior to December 2nd.  On campus, there will be plenty of clearly marked Toy-for-Tots boxes in which anyone can leave a toy.  You can get involved and support the Heading Home by clicking here to access the family’s Amazon gift registry and select items to outfit their new home.  The items will be shipped to Middlesex and then assembled at the home on November 3rd.  Thank you in advance to all the Middlesex families who have and will support these worthy causes!
