New Hotel & Conference Centre being developed behind Hardy Crescent and Eddie Shain
A new hotel & conference centre is proposed for the land immediately East of K Paul Architects on Sherwood Heights Drive.  COCA Board members have spoken with representatives of the Hyatt hotel project and the Town planning office to discuss concerns related to the homes backing onto the site.

COCA urges residents to review the site application at https://www.oakville.ca/business/sp-33878.html and bring any concerns or questions to the Town Planning Office.  Please alert COCA at info@ourclearview.org with any major concerns.

Loose Leaf Collection is Nov 18-22 in Clearview
Please place loose leaves on the boulevard/shoulder of the road, not on catch basins, in bike lanes or in ditches. Remember to keep twigs out of the pile.  For details, visit https://www.oakville.ca/residents/loose-leaf.html

Odours and dust/particulates in air
If you notice unpleasant odours and/or a haze or dust in the air, note the direction of the wind, date and time, and description of the odour/dust. You can report it to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) though Mr. Tim Webb, Supervisor, Halton-Peel District at 289-962-3540 or Tim.Webb@ontario.ca. More info at https://www.ontario.ca/page/odours-our-environment#section-2

Would you like a skateboard park in Ward 3?
An enterprising Grade 9 student, Crawford Hughes, is spearheading an effort to get a skatepark on Cornwall Road. He is seeking support through a survey to support his presentation to the Town on December 3rd.  The new skatepark at Cornwall Road Sports Park would join the baseball diamonds and park.  Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7P3LMVP

We Love Oakville – no amalgamation!
Premier Ford and Minister Clark announced Friday morning that they will not force a top down approach to municipal governance.  In other words, Oakville will remain a town within the Region of Halton. COCA supported the We Love Oakville effort on this issue because we believed it was important to avoid any disruption to the current municipal services and representation that we have in Oakville.  Thank you to those of you who joined with more than 4,400 fellow residents in sending a message resisting possible amalgamation or restructuring of our elected representatives. See the Mayor’s statement here.

James W. Hill Fall Fair
COCA was pleased to have an information table at the James W. Hill Fall Fair and provide a game prize. We signed up new members and shared information with residents. Thanks for having us!

Oakville Pier Closed for Lighthouse Replacement
The lighthouse on the east pier in Oakville Harbour is being replaced. This work includes remediation of the concrete base and replacement of the metal structure and its infrastructure (lights, etc.).

Oakville joins Climate and Energy ‘Showcase Cities’ pilot in Canada
Oakville was selected to join the first Showcase Cities cohort led by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) Canada. Over the next year, the town will receive intensive support to help reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to climate change.
