New Zealand hydro storage is near average levels for this time of the year, sitting at 97% of average and 57% of full.
Despite the storage position and firm northward transfer on the HVDC link, wholesale electricity prices have increased over the week to near $200/MWh during the day. In part this resulted from transmission outages which affected output from two North Island wind farms, and other scheduled generation plant outages.
This week a gas supply outage at Kupe has been continuing, but this has not affected electricity supply security. The Kupe outage is still expected to end on 27 November.
