Happy birthday to us!

This year we celebrate 10 years of fundraising and supporting local families in North Devon.

We've achieved so much over the last decade, none of which would have been possible without the help of volunteers and supporters, like you.
In this special edition of our newsletter, we're looking back  at some of our highlights. Join us as we reminisce! Please take time to watch our anniversary video at the end of the newsletter, which features a poem written and read by one of our family ambassadors, Louise.
Care for Kids North Devon was formed in 2009, following the experience and insight of four  women, Jacky, Jo, Jenny and Fran. This image shows Jacky's sons, Jason and Angelo, taken while Jason was in hospital being treated for leukemia. Jacky is our charity manager and one of the four trustees who set up our charity 10 years ago.
In 2010 we completed our first mini-project on the Caroline Thorpe ward at North Devon District Hospital. We raised enough funds for a new TV in the playroom. As your support for our charity has grown, so have our projects! Read on to find out more...
2011 was the year our mascot Ollie arrived on the scene! We held a competition for local children to design a mascot to represent our charity and this was the winning entry. He's bright and cheerful and can sometimes be seen with a surfboard in hand (tentacle?!).
Sainsburys is just one of the many businesses who supported us over the years.
Not only does corporate sponsorship raise lots of money to support local families, it also increases awareness of who we are and what we do. Thanks to all the local businesses who have helped us over the years!
In 2013 we funded a much-needed pain distraction unit on the Caroline Thorpe ward. This machine uses 3D video to distract children who are having blood taken or other treatments they might find uncomfortable or distressing. The soothing music also helps to calm parents.
Did you join us for our Greek Night in 2014? It was definitely a night to remember. We love the range of events our supporters host on our behalf - large or small, every penny raised is put to good use. Perhaps you'd like to organise an event for us in our anniversary year?
2015 saw the completion of another project at North Devon District Hospital. We held a photography competition to brighten up the stairwell and corridors at the Ladywell unit. The winning images are still hanging on the walls and look fantastic, have you seen them?
Three years ago we reached a massive milestone. Our fundraising total topped £150,000! An incredible amount. However, we are very happy to announce that with your help we've now almost doubled that - since 2009 we've raised over £286,800 for local families!
2017 was a very busy year for us. Not only did we hold our first Barnstaple 10k run, we also refurbished the parents room at the Caroline Thorpe ward.
Have you taken part in one of our 10k events? Join our Care for Kids 10k Run page on Facebook for more information.
Last year we completed our biggest project to date. We transformed an isolation treatment room at the hospital. The whole room was specially lined and painted, shelves fitted, beautiful artwork hung and a brand new sparkly bathroom put in. And of course, a new TV - with Netflix!
And so, to 2019, our anniversary year. We've already had so many highlights, but the Great North Run was a first for us. We have five charity spaces available for next year's half marathon event in Newcastle. If you would like to run for us, enter our ballot online by 30 November.
Watch and share our 10th anniversary video, featuring the words of Louise Pedlar, one of our ambassadors and a great supporter of our charity. It would mean the world to us if you could leave a comment of support on YouTube channel and share our video with all your friends on social media!
We hope you've enjoyed looking back at our photos and memories from the last ten years. We're hoping to raise more money in our 10th anniversary year than ever before. Please help us achieve this dream. You can do so in a number of ways:
Thanks again for your continuing support. Here's to the next 10 years!
Best wishes,
