Since its publication we’ve been having inspiring conversations about how to apply the Human Learning Systems approach and transform commissioning in places including Nottingham, Gloucestershire, Surrey, Coventry and Brent.
A number of common themes stand out: growing consensus that traditional approaches to commissioning are in many cases no longer fit for purpose; an appetite for thinking big – for fundamentally rethinking the purpose of commissioning rather than tweaks around the edges; and a sense of possibility for what can be achieved, particularly through fostering new relationships with partners and with local people.
Putting this ambition into practice can be challenging – it can be difficult to know where to start, who needs to be involved, and how to go about it. This is why Collaborate has designed the Collaborative Commissioning offer. Based on the Human Learning Systems principles, we see the development of new commissioning approaches as one of the key building blocks of the infrastructure for system change, and are excited to work with places who want to put it into practice.
