Welcome to November. It's Native American Heritage Month. A HUGE Thank you to those of you who came to our exhibition, Women's Narratives, at Newark Arts Festival. We had a great time and sold some pieces.
We have news for you about what we are up to.
It all starts with 3 organizations that our curator will be working with. We begin this month with new alliances and projects: Jersey City Theater Center, Bed Stuy Museum of African Art and Jersey Arts Council. Some are collaborations and some involve volunteer time. Starting this month, we will begin to feature and share work available from some of our artists. These pieces are available for sale. We also show you some distinctive pieces from our shop.
As we head to 2020, some changes and expansion, our curator, Atim Annette Oton will be working with Jersey City Theater Center as their curator with the goal of expanding and growing the visual arts programs and exhibition series. She has begun with the first exhibition of Jack Crying Raven Anderson opening November 16, and will be working on a call for work for an exhibition on Destiny for 2020.

Join JCTC as we celebrate National Native American Heritage Month this November with the opening of the exhibition by Jack Crying Raven Anderson curated by Atim Annette Oton of Calabar Gallery.
Meet with Ramapough Lenape Nation artist who is a member of one of three New Jersey tribes officially recognized as an American Indian tribe in New Jersey since 1980 and come to see the screening of “American Native” directed by Steven Oritt.
Artist bio: Jack Anderson is a self-taught contemporary artist of African American and Native American heritage who creates Jazz, Blues, Love and Native American theme.
Local and International playwrights are invited to submit their unproduced one-act, monologues, or ten-minute plays. Selected plays will have a professional stage reading. For the first time we hope to podcast one of the selected plays. Plays should focus on Love and Healing. Deadline is December 15th. STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR THE BEDFORD STUYVESANT MUSEUM OF AFRICAN ART.
Last month, Atim Annette Oton begun work with the Bedford Stuyvesant Museum of African Art in Brooklyn as an Art Strategic Advisor to build the organization over the next 5 years. It will involve creating a viable board of directors, an advisory board, working on a building fund for a 4000 square feet of museum space, developing an exhibition series and education program as well as fundraising. The first project will be an Art Sale, Auction and Fundraiser for April 2020. My work in Bed Stuy is about collaboration and institutional building.
