Developer Newsletter 001

Welcome!

Welcome to the first Embark developer newsletter! I'm Ari, a developer advocate at the studio.

About once a month, I'll send you a summary of what Embark's been up to in open source and the greater developer ecosystem. I'll also let you know about upcoming events, where you can meet our developer team.

Let me know what you think! You can send feedback about the newsletter or questions to opensource@embark-studios.com.

News

Embark Sponsors the Blender Development Fund

Embark is now a gold sponsor of the Blender development fund! We wrote a love letter to celebrate the announcement - check it out to learn more about how our artists use Blender.

We plan to open-source some of our studio tools for Blender very soon, so watch for those in newsletter 002!

This image was created using a Blender plug-in created by @JoseConseco3 that uses Embark’s own example-based texture synthesis algorithm.
Open Source

Thanks for a great Hacktoberfest!

This October, we tagged lots of our issues for Hacktoberfest and saw a bunch of new contributors join us. Thanks for your contributions, and we hope to see more from you in the future!

Introducing a new Rust crate

rpmalloc-rs is a Rust crate that enables using the rpmalloc C library as a fast cross-platform memory allocator. We’ve just started using this in our game engine as it is much faster than the system allocator and works across all the platforms that we are supporting (Windows, Mac, Linux).
