"The whale has a possible infinity of meanings," wrote one recent commentary on Moby-Dick. This year is the 200th anniversary of Herman Melville's birth. 

Scott Jones and Fred Nielsen are going to lead a conversation on the meanings of Melville, including an exploration of the theological implications of his work.  Such as -- does the white whale represents the Calvinist view of God or the emergence of a new polytheism (both have been argued for)?
