NEWS FROM THE JACKIE FACTORY

Between travel and travails, soundtracks and sound bites, we haven't had a minute to send our usual Fall newsletter till now. With so much to share we'll just get started with some highlights. We've missed you and hope to see you out and about: We'll be mostly in New York through New Years, then spending early 2020 in New Orleans.
BEYOND GENRE 1977-86
EDIT DEAK SUPER 8 FILMS AT MOMA
SOUNDTRACK BY JOHNNY DYNELL

The re-opening of the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART a few weeks ago revealed a thrilling new curatorial mission and shed new light on some obscure treasures as well as the museum's Greatest Hits. Our own JOHNNY DYNELL created the soundtrack for an important exhibit that features many Downtown stars of the very early Eighties, mostly shot in EDIT DEAK's downtown loft on Super 8 film..

In Johnny's words: "To be included in the reopening of MOMA and a part of their new presentation of film is a thrill. Edit's 81 minute Super 8 "BEYOND GENRE 1977-86" is a peek into the Downtown Art/Punk scene. It was co-edited by PATRICK FOX and I re-created the soundtrack I used to play in Edit's loft when these were shown. The exhibit - part of PRIVATE LIVES PUBLIC SPACES - is free to the public and easy to find on the ground floor. (The first big screen you see off the down escalator).

From the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART catalog: "PRIVATE LIVES PUBLIC SPACES, the Museum’s first large-scale exhibition of home movies and amateur films drawn exclusively from its collection. This gallery presentation of largely unseen, privately produced works will explore the connection between artist’s cinema, amateur movies, and family filmmaking since the 1923 introduction of small-gauge film stock heralded the unofficial birth of affordable home moviemaking. The Museum’s archival holdings of the genre represent a remarkable range of creativity by artists, celebrities, world travelers, and the public at large".

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 23
DAEL ORLANDERSMITH GALA 60TH BIRTHDAY
BENEFIT FOR THE WILD PROJECT

East Village playwright, actress, poet and neighborhood icon DAEL ORLANDERSMITH celebrates her 60th Birthday with three hours of music and performance at THE WILD PROJECT. Orlandersmith (a comrade since the VERBAL ABUSE days at JACKIE 60) has organized this benefit evening for the scrappy EV performance space. THE JACKIE FACTORY are proud to announce JACKIE MCs CHI CHI VALENTI and PAUL ALEXANDER as the Special Guest Hosts of this star-studded night. All proceeds benefit the Wild Project's mission - supporting the diverse independent theater, film, music, dance, visual arts and spoken-word artists of NYC.
As spaces for artists in the East Village and Lower East Side disappear, the mission of the Wild Project  remains more vital than ever. Orlandersmith says “The best birthday present imaginable is to support spaces for artists. We need art now more than ever. That the Wild Project continues to house and nurture multidiscipline artists — photography, music, dance, painting, all kinds of writing, plus there’s a space for kids who are interested in the arts — is a tremendous undertaking. These spaces are now too few and far between."

There are over twenty performers appearing, including neighborhood lights and legends EDWIN TORRES, BINA SHARIFF, BOB HOLMAN, HEATHER LITTEER, DAVID CALE and MATTHEW DEAN MARSH, FAITH NYC, TAMMY FAYE STARLITE, ROME NEAL, ESZTER BALINT, DJs AMBER MARTIN and ANGELA DI CARLO aka DJS MRS. ROBINSON and many more. Tickets are $60 - $100 (including all food and drink) and can be purchased online.

NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES NEWS

As we did for the first time in 2019, NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES will again present two editions in 2020. The NOTS 30 (NYC) date will be announced later this month for early May, 2020. As our home venue for the last six years (Irving Plaza) is closed for renovation, we will be celebrating at a different, equally historic venue for this milestone edition. Our box office and booking process will both open soon after this year's date is announced.

Meanwhile, the JACKIE FACTORY is delighted to announce the second annual NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES NEW ORLEANS on Saturday, January 25 at ONE EYED JACKS in the French Quarter:

THE JACKIE FACTORY PRESENTS
THE SECOND ANNUAL
NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES NEW ORLEANS
SATURDAY, January 25, 2020
ONE EYED JACKS

NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES - the largest and most beloved STEVIE NICKS fan event in the world - returns to New Orleans in early 2020.  Like the NYC marathon NOTS editions that turn 30 in May, this Enchanted evening will be produced by show founders CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL and their creative krewe at THE JACKIE FACTORY.  Their first NOTS NOLA last February was a best-dressed, performance-rich epic attended by show fans from all over and a marvelously mixed local crowd. Not too surprising for a magical municipality that producers call "the most Stevie city in America".

Neither a contest nor a karaoke show, NOTS is a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. The show will feature a dozen interpretations of the goddess STEVIE NICKS headlined by NOTS "Legends of Stevie Realness" AMBER MARTIN (NYC) and DIVINE GRACE (Orlando) with GOLDEN BRAID (Manchester, UK) and SCOTT MARTINO (New Orleans) already on board. The bill is in formation and we welcome performers from past NOTS NYC editions as well as local/regional and debut performers to apply (Details at mothernyc.com/stevie).

Longtime NOTS DJ SAMMY JO (Club Cumming) will be spinning the all-Stevie/Fleetwood dancefloor and show founder and "Enchantress of Ceremony" EMPRESS CHI CHI VALENTI will be keeping the white winged talent flowing. The show will climax with the iconic "Battle of A Thousand Stevies" finale and tambourines will be tossed to the Enchanted audience through the night.

NOTS Producers Valenti and Dynell have been part time residents of the Marigny neighborhood since 2014 and have lent their talents to other productions in the city for decades including the ENDLESS NIGHT VAMPYRE BALL and BETTE, BATHHOUSE AND BEYOND.  Born in 1991 at the tiny performance venue MOTHER at JACKIE 60, NOTS and its passionate audience inspired the feature film GYPSY 83 and even a "Jeopardy" question. It has launched generations of "Legends of Stevie Realness" across the U.S. and worldwide.
