The deadline to request copies of our FREE "Is Your Well Water Safe?" brochure is December 7. These brochures are appropriate for county and state health departments, labs, county extension offices, technical assistance providers, and other stakeholders.
We look forward to working with you to re-supply your “stock” of brochures if you need more or, if you haven’t got any in the past, to working with you this time around. We are grateful for the tremendous response we have received about this program and are glad they are helpful in your efforts to support private well owners.
We have set up a form for you to request brochures. They are completely free and there is a space for you to add your own label. They are available in English and Spanish. We expect to have them mailed out in early January 2020.
Call for Abstracts: Private Wells - Current Challenges and Opportunities

The early registration deadline for the joint Southeastern and Northeastern Geological Society of America Conference, “Private Wells - Current Challenges and Opportunities,” is February 18, 2020. The conference will take place in Reston, Virginia.
The session will integrate new and evolving research, public engagement, policy, and regulatory efforts regarding the use of private wells for water supply and the associated public health concerns. The goal is to enable audience members to understand and address issues regarding the use and protection of private wells, including private well testing, data management, anthropogenic and geogenic contaminants, and other aspects of public health protection.

Our 4-hour online workshop returns this January! This workshop covers the use of our assessment tool for the evaluation of private well vulnerability to contamination and best practices for well owner outreach and for managing a well owner program. This workshop has been approved for 4.0 contact hours of continuing education credit with NEHA.

This is an annual event focused on helping homeowners to care for and maintain their septic systems. The publication includes a handy summary of home water treatment options and a table for the most common water treatment units and contaminants. This resource can help a homeowners decide if home water treatment makes sense for their particular situation, budget, drinking water source, and what treatment options may be best.
This new video from the Private Well Class discusses understanding the risks if a well becomes flooded. If floodwaters overtop a private well, it should be assumed that the water is contaminated and disinfection for bacteria, followed by sampling should be done before using it again. If there is a possibility of floodwaters reaching a private well, this video also discusses the importance of planning in advance.
