EVENT RECAP: BRINGING CANADIAN RENEWABLES TO NYC

New York needs a greener grid to reduce citywide emissions and help building owners comply with NYC's building emissions law. But where will these low-carbon electrons come from, and how will they be transmitted downstate? One proposed solution is a 333-mile buried transmission line delivering Canadian hydropower directly to NYC.

On October 23, Urban Green brought together leading experts to assess the state of low-carbon energy in New York and explore the possible role of Canadian hydropower. Read the event recap to learn more.

BUILDINGS OF EXCELLENCE COMPETITION

Last month, Governor Cuomo announced that $18 million was awarded to 28 winning projects in the first round of the $40 million Buildings of Excellence Competition.

The Competition, administered by The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), recognizes and rewards the design, construction and operation of highly replicable low- or zero-carbon emitting multifamily buildings. Overall, $14 million of awarded funds support low to moderate income housing and in New York City, 18 projects received a total of $10 million in awards.

NYSERDA is currently accepting proposals for the second round of the competition through April 2020, with another $10 million available for winning projects.
