On Tuesday, December 3rd, as part of the global day of giving known as Giving Tuesday, Voice of Witness is celebrating our 10 years of social justice storytelling.
Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve amplified the voices of over 300 people directly impacted by injustice, reached 20,000 students annually through our education program, and published 17 oral history books and 2 educational publications, with 3 new projects on the way.
But there’s still so much to do. So, as much as we are celebrating this year, we are also calling on our community to help us continue this work.
Every week leading up to Giving Tuesday, we’ll be sharing special insights from our work, and encouraging you, as partners in all that we do, to give boldly.

On September 20, 2017, Hurricane María battered Puerto Rico for over twenty-two hours. The catastrophe continues in the ways in which the people of Puerto Rico have been ignored in its aftermath.
Voice of Witness is currently collaborating with 150 students at the University of Puerto Rico on the Mi María book project. These students are fanning out across the island to bring together stories of survival and community, in the wake of the abject lack of support by the US government which has left many on the island still without electricity, clean drinking water, food, and medical care.
Translator Zaira Arvelo Alicea (pictured) and her partner survived the hurricane by lying on top of an air mattress as their apartment filled with floodwater. But by telling her story with Voice of Witness, she and other Puerto Ricans get to be so much more than victims.
