November 2019

Josh Rowan Named Transportation Commissioner

On November 13, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Josh Rowan, as the commissioner of Atlanta’s Department of Transportation (ATLDOT). We set championing the Department of Streets and Mobility (aka the Atlanta Department of Transportation) as our top priority of 2019 and are pleased to share his appointment as a testament to the power of collaboration. Thanks to Jacob Tzegaegbe, Senior Transportation Policy Advisor to Mayor Bottoms, Councilmember Andre Dickens, and all the partners on the Task Force Councilmen Dickens convened.

Commissioner Rowan is charged with implementing the Strategic Transportation Plan. With new leadership in place to activate the plan, we are excited about our opportunity to advance safe streets for all in 2020 and beyond.

Donate today to help us hold the ATLDOT accountable for implementing Vision Zero practices with haste.

On Thursday, November 21, we held our first Ticket Diversion program class. People with first time bicycle-related citations that attend the two-hour course receive a certificate of completion, which absolves their fine. Councilmember Carla Smith led the charge for the legislation and joined participants during the first class. This new ticket diversion program for bicycle-related citations is a result of our advocacy efforts and the release of the Unblock the Lane report. The ticket diversion course is free, and registration is open for the next class, Thursday, January 23.
